Illawarra Metallurgical Coal is a long term and leading coking coal supplier which operates two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Gas Drainage, the purpose of the role is to ensure the gas drainage systems meet resource availability, reliability and performance requirements as well as compliance with the site Health and Safety Management System (including relevant legislation). Appin's Gas Drainage program is one of the largest in Australia. Focusing on new technology and innovations to achieve its extensive pre and post gas drainage program.

Other accountabilities include:

  • Build and communicate accurate work plans and schedules from one week to two weeks to enable efficient execution by Production teams
  • Work with Production teams to gather planning inputs and constraints
  • Review & report of daily & weekly schedule against achievement
  • Driving initiatives to improve work practices and procedures
  • Design and review of Gas Drainage Flight Plans
  • Stock management of all drilling equipment
  • Undertaking in Critical Control safety audits

This position will be based at Appin operations which are in the Southern Coalfields of New South Wales, near the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney, with occasional travel to our Wollongong office, located at the University of Wollongong's Innovation Campus.
