Role Details

Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Geologist: Resource to join their Geology department at St Ives Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Senior Geologist: Mining, you will be responsible for assisting with generating, maintaining and reviewing the operation's Mineral Inventory and Mineral Resource models.

This role is offered on an 8 day on 6 days off roster and would require the incumbent to be fly in fly out or residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times.
  • Provide resource modeling skills and develop appropriate resource models for mining projects
  • Demonstrate a strong focus on model reconciliation with an ability to interrogate the causes of changes to models and demonstrate the impact on the resulting model
  • Prepare and complete all reporting requirements with the appropriate level of detail within agreed timeframes
  • Planning, reviewing and budgeting of resource definition and in mine exploration drilling
  • Comply with external audits and industry best practice by ensuring that all prepared models meet the requirements of JORC, SAMREC and SOX standards
  • Maintain a strong involvement with the QA/QC function in order to ensure the quality of the data supporting the resource models.
  • Provide the assistance, support and training to relevant Geology personnel in resource estimation practice according to GFA procedures and guidelines
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the financial implications and impacts of resource model quality on mining and exploration decisions, by producing high quality, accurate resource models in a timely manner
  • Audit and review local mine and exploration models as part of peer review process and provide appropriate inputs to improve quality of estimation
  • Identify, analyse and proactively manage business and estimation risks through effective communication and application of resource estimation procedures, guidelines and peer review
  • Define and guide, in conjunction with senior mining and resources staff and consultants appropriate sampling and estimation procedures on mining projects

Key factors to your success include:
  • Bachelor of Science in Geology or related discipline with strong mathematical & statistical emphasis
  • 5 years as Mine or Exploration Geologist with 2 years minimum experience on Resource and Grade Control estimation
  • Proven geological interpretation skills with the ability to apply this to Resource estimation
  • Experience with Ordinary Kriging and estimation quality optimisation
  • Understanding of QA/QC procedures, drilling and sampling practices and standard gold industry laboratory analytical methods
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Datamine or similar software, Leapfrog, geostatistical software such as Supervisor or Isatis and Maxwell/Acquire databases
