The Geotechnical Group is a Hatch global practice providing Geotechnical engineering design expertise to Hatch's business units. Our capability spans through the whole project lifecycle, comprising scoping, conceptual design, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering, construction and project management.

Hatch is currently seeking an Geotechnical Engineer to join our Dynamic Earth Solutions team in the Brisbane Office. This is an opportunity for an Engineer with demonstrated engineering experience to be part of our growing team in Australia and broaden their skillset by working across our client’s key projects.

You will be responsible for organising and undertaking field investigations, preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications and reports for both front-end planning studies and the detailed engineering phase for multi-disciplinary projects which will include large scale infrastructure projects in Australia and across Asia. The role will be a client facing role and have the backing of a large group of geotechnical engineers in Brisbane.

The successful candidate will be required to work within Project teams and in accordance with Project requirements. If you are a motivated, flexible and well-presented team player we encourage you to apply.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain a strong focus on personal safety and the safety of staff and Contractors under their supervision
  • Work closely with engineers of varying disciplines, designers and project administration
  • Scope, manage and participate in field investigations for projects in Victoria and Australia wide.
  • Interpret field data to develop geotechnical and geological models
  • Prepare both factual and interpretative geotechnical reports
  • Liaison with prospective clients and help scoping projects
  • Manage and prepare new proposals

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree in Civil / Geotechnical engineering from a recognised tertiary institution
  • Post graduate engineering experience
  • Able to work independently in field situations
  • A strong focus on both safety and quality
  • Demonstrated competency in managing and executing field investigations
  • Willingness to undertake short term assignments out of office
  • Able to manage multiple tasks
  • Able to prepare clear and concise reports

  • Experience in insitu testing and laboratory testing
  • Experience in earthworks, dams, roads and bridge geotechnical engineering
  • Experience in tunneling
  • Experience using packages such as gINT and GeoStudio
  • RPEQ certification will be well regarded
