The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Finance Department as Specialist, Senior - Payroll
About the role
The Specialist, Senior - Payroll is responsible for the end-to-end payroll operations for a large, diverse, national FIFO and Local workforces. The role ensures strict compliance with PNG tax laws (IRC) and labour regulations, processes superannuation (Nasfund), and resolves complex payroll queries.

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months). Candidates must be PNG Nationals and available to start immediately. Females are encouraged to apply.

About the role
The Specialist, Senior - Payroll is responsible for the end-to-end payroll operations for a large, diverse, national FIFO and Local workforces. The role ensures strict compliance with PNG tax laws (IRC) and labour regulations, processes superannuation (Nasfund), and resolves complex payroll queries.
In this role, you will:
- Execute end-to-end payroll functions using Oracle Payroll/EBS modules
- Process fortnightly payrolls for national employees, including diverse shift rosters and allowances.
- Manage timecard data flowing from Time & Attendance to Oracle EBS.
- Review and approve payroll accounting journal entries and perform monthly payroll reconciliations.
- Ensure strict adherence to Papua New Guinea Taxation Laws (Internal Revenue Commission - IRC), including salary and wages tax (SWT) calculations.
- Manage statutory superannuation contributions (Nasfund).
- Maintain deep knowledge of PNG labour laws and mining industry award agreements.
- Mentor, coach, and supervise junior payroll officers.
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, resolving discrepancies quickly and professionally.
- Collaborate closely with site HR and Finance teams.
- Maintain Time & Attendance and Oracle EBS payroll systems to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Prepare and submit month-end statutory payment and reports to PNG IRC and Nasfund.
- Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and producers.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA).
- Demonstrated leadership experience with strong team management and mentoring skills.
- Minimum 5+ years of senior payroll experience, preferably within the PNG resources, mining, or oil and gas sectors.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency and hands-on experience with major ERP payroll systems.
- Strong knowledge of month-end processing, financial reporting and reconciliations.
- Strong knowledge and ability to track payroll transactions through to general ledger, prepare general ledger reconciliations and month-end journals
- Compliance & Auditing Readiness: Understanding of IFRS financial controls, and audit processes.
