Purpose: The Health & Safety Field Inspector is to provide field support to monitor the implementation of the Constructor’s Project Safety Management Plan. This role will receive direction from the Client and Project Manager to assist them with their mandate for the duration of the project.

The incumbent must be adaptable, self-motivated, can work both independently as well as in a team environment, and be able to build and maintain strong relationships with both colleagues and external clients through excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Majority of the time will be spent in the field at various locations throughout the project site. Travel between works sites will be required.
  • Evaluate the implementation of the Constructor’s Project Safety Management Plan.
  • Monitor work activities of the Constructor ensuring safe work practices are in place and followed.
  • Create and submit daily reports of activities and findings to the Client and Hatch PM.
  • Provide non-conformance reports to the Constructor as required, following up on issues identified for resolution.
  • Review Constructors Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) for effectiveness.
  • Participate in site safety meetings/toolbox meetings.
  • Perform specific inspections upon request of the client.
  • Participate in stakeholder review as required for program development by the Constructor for project specific programs.
  • Assist with environmental monitoring as required.
  • Monitor the implementation of corrective actions from health and safety audits and incident investigations.
  • Perform duties as stipulated by the Client and as directed by the Hatch Project PM and Health and Safety Regional Lead.


  • 5+ years’ experience in health and safety with experience on major construction projects.
  • H&S post-secondary education (degree/certificate) or related field is preferred.
  • CRSP or CRST designation. If not, at least a CSO with significant experience.
  • Experience working as an Owner’s representative.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A high level of computer skills.
  • A high level of organizational skills.
  • A passion for continual improvement of project health and safety performance.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Creative problem-solving ability.
  • Manage conflict in a calm, professional manner.
  • Must be a self-starter.
