The location of this role is the Hermosa Project Site near Patagonia, Arizona.

The Role:

Provides leadership in the coordination and execution of all Exploration activities within the Hermosa Project Area of Influence


  • Accountable for safe and effective operation of the Exploration Geology Team and activity at Hermosa
  • Ensure all Reports maintain Mandatory and Necessary Training compliance
  • Ensure all personnel are trained and deemed competent before operating any machinery or undertaking a task

Operational Potential Development
  • Provides technical and operational direction to Exploration team members in line with Hermosa Project Geological Strategy
  • Directs the Exploration Team and participates in the acquisition, consistency maintenance, quality control and interpretation of geological data for exploration target definition and development
  • Develops, maintains and updates all relevant work practice documentation (SWI's, Procedures, Manuals) as required
  • Ensure Time in Field commitments are fulfilled and monitored
  • Ensure sufficient roster coverage is provided and ensure all Leave is reviewed before granting approval
  • Key contributor to the development and execution of the Hermosa Exploration Program

Maintain Meaningful Connection
  • Develop and mentor geological staff to ensure professional development
  • Instigate and up-keep competency-based training (inc. Matrix) for all Exploration Team Geologists
  • Ensure regular 1 on 1 review meetings with all reports (outside normal business requirements)
  • Attend all relevant team meetings

Functional Support
  • Provides technical support to Environmental and Construction Teams for planning
  • Co-ordinate with Exploration Contract Partners to ensure efficient meeting of the requirements
  • Ensures contractors meet contractual obligations in production and costs
  • Review of Contract Partner claims
  • Participate in contractor reviews, tender documentation and be a key stakeholder in the tender evaluation

Technology and Innovation
  • Contributes to and directs the implementation of technology initiatives to optimize operational and portfolio potential

Environmental and Social Leadership
  • Liaise with Environmental Team to coordinate regulatory compliance for all field and site-based activities

Portfolio Optimization
  • Leads Exploration Team Projects as they are undertaken

Planning and Reporting
  • Assists with Geology Team operating and capital budgets
  • Assists with timely reporting of Hermosa Exploration activities
  • Assists with explanation of variances in cost reporting

Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:

  • B.Sc. or higher in Geology (or an earth sciences equivalent)
  • Valid light vehicle driver's license
  • Visible field safety leadership and an ability to drive and extract safety and performance excellence
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of exploration geology
  • A developing ability in leading geological teams
  • Strong and effective communication and engagement skills to work at relevant levels of the organization
  • Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
  • Strong English language written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum 15 years of geology related work experience including exposure to and proficiency in project, exploration, mine and resource geology
  • Experience in to leading multidisciplinary geological programs and teams
  • Exposure to the development and implementation of geology and data management processes and systems
  • Exposure to geological modelling including use of industry standard modelling software
  • Experience in CRD style zinc-lead-silver mineralization
