We are currently looking to add a Lead Hand, Welding Shop position to our Fort McMurray location. This is a working leadership role (the selected individual will be on the tools)

Reports to: Foreman, Welding Shop
Shift: 7 on x 7 off, 12 hours per shift, rotational between days and nights
Location: Fort McMurray, AB
Relocation: This position does not offer relocation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety and production supervision and instruction to employees for troubleshooting, repair, maintenance of the equipment in the Welding shop
  • Assign and supervise work tasks to all welders
  • Manpower planning to ensure job priorities are managed efficiently
  • Maintain all aspects of Komatsu standards, including but not limited to; Safety, Human Resources, Global quality standards and process
  • Daily Kronos checks to ensure work is being charged correctly
  • Maintain the Shop area to be a clean and organized environment
  • Complete the appropriate paperwork, forms and reports
  • Mentoring and training of apprentices and Journeymen
  • Maintain or exceed an OEM level of Quality on all work utilizing your available Q/A Team
  • Sign off on quality control sheets included in the job package
  • Interpret blueprints
  • Track daily hours to stay ahead of the cost/issues on all jobs ongoing in the shop
  • Help to find new ways or processes to complete the jobs in a more efficient manner
  • Provide high quality service to internal and external customers
  • Effectively deal with disciplinary issues if required
  • Ability to work in the absence of direct supervision and make recommendations based upon past experience and Joy Global practices
  • Other duties as assigned


Skills & Qualifications

  • Journeyman certification with Red Seal welding ticket
  • Understanding of a wide range of welding processes
  • Experience in a shop environment with an understanding of operation
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to complete reports as required
  • Must have previous leadership experience with drive for change, managing issues and growing the business
  • 2-5 years' experience of leading a team
  • 4 + years' experience rebuilding P&H shovel components and other equipment
  • 4 years minimum welding experience in the mining industry
  • Ability to interact with the customer and assist in whatever capacity required
  • Must be a self-motivator, and able to make good decisions based upon the best and most relevant information at hand
  • Results-oriented team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet objectives/deliverables
  • Ability to mentor and lead a team of trades personnel
  • Heat Treatment is an asset
  • Experience welding with 3/32" welding wire is an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings with ease
  • NDT or CWB certification or experience is an asset
  • Must have no restrictions for access for any mine site
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations--Health and Safety focus
  • LSE Training is an asset
  • Valid Driver's License
