The Opportunity:

WorkPac Professional are currently seeking an experienced Mine Planning Lead for an immediate start based within Brisbane. This position will be a full time, permanent role with our leading global client, occasional site travel as required.

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the role of Mine Planning Engineer is to lead the mine design and scheduling activities to identify safe, efficient mining activities which are optimised to deliver maximum NPV. This will require the Mine Planning Engineer to ensure the plan accounts for the relevant inputs, potential risks / opportunities and is based on sound operational practices for a modern underground coal mine.

This exciting role offers the opportunity for a candidate to contribute to the early stage study and planning of the mine and continue with the mine through the project, commissioning, ramp-up and operational phases of the mine.

Accountabilities will Include:
  • Maintaining personal conduct in line with company health, safety and environmental policies, and coaches others, including participation in Risk Assessments and Root Cause Analysis (RCAs)
  • Develop and review mine designs, production rates, and integrated schedules optimise project value.
  • Engaging relevant stakeholders and communicate operable work plans / schedules which enable safe, efficient production.
  • Assist with the technical planning for resumption of operations
  • Assist with development of the appropriate hazard management plans to ensure the mine operates efficiently and safely
  • Work with Study Team to gather planning inputs/constraints and gain endorsement of plans and schedules;
  • Assist in developing planning standards and procedures aligned to the Management Operating System (MOS);
  • Provide assessment of labour, equipment, and materials for the mine plan.


About You:
  • Bachelor of Engineering Mining is required.
  • A QLD Underground Coal Statutory Qualification (e.g. VO, ERZ Controller / Deputy) would be highly desirable.
  • Proven experience with engineering in coal mining operations and the ability to assist mine design, planning and scheduling
  • Underground Coal Experience -Highly Regarded
  • Proficiency with XPAC (required), Deswik (preferable), AutoCAD and VentSIM or similar.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels, with demonstrated ability to gain alignment and create buy in of internal and external stakeholders
  • Work planning, designing and scheduling

  • Technical Trade knowledge
  • Minimum five years industry experience as an Engineering Manager
