This role will be based in our Perth CBD office and engaged on an 8-month fixed term basis (parental leave).

South32 Technology Advisory & Planning is responsible for clearly articulating the direction of Technology in South32 and supporting the Technology sub-functions with business planning, portfolio management, second line assurance and contract management capabilities. The Planning Lead role reports to the Technology Advisory & Planning Manager and plays a critical role in our ability to achieve our technology goals by creating and maintaining a consolidated technology portfolio and budget as well as facilitating and contributing to the formation of the Technology Plan and Roadmap.

The Technology Planning Lead is responsible for several key focus areas:

  • Strategic Technology Business Plan: Facilitate and contribute to the review and strategic planning process with the Technology Leadership Team to enable the development of an aligned and integrated Technology Business Plan. This includes monthly priority setting and tracking activities as well as management reporting of key performance metrics and indicators. In addition, perform the role of Alignment Co-ordinator reporting to South32's central alignment team, ensuring alignment with Functions and Operations as well as South32's organisational strategy and plan.
  • Portfolio Office: Ensure the establishment and running of the Portfolio Office. This will include development, implementation and maintenance of the Technology Function's Portfolio, Program and Project Management Framework, Prioritisation Framework, Demand to Value process, tools and governance within the Technology Portfolio.
  • Business Investment Evaluation: Conduct business investment evaluation in accordance with South32's Valuation Framework. This will inform the portfolio prioritisation process.
  • Benefits Realisation: Ensure the establishment and running of the Benefits Realisation Framework for Technology.
  • Portfolio Management: Develop, implement and manage the integrated and consolidated Technology Portfolio, ensuring alignment with the Technology Strategy.
  • Technology Budget: Develop and oversee the integrated and consolidated Technology Budget and associated processes and practices.

The purpose of the role is:
  • Facilitate the strategic review and planning processes with the Technology Leadership Team and key stakeholders to enable the development of an aligned and integrated Technology Plan
  • Collect input from the different Technology sub-functions and architecture on technology outlooks, trends and competitor and vendor information
  • Lead the development and delivery of the Technology annual budget, forecasts and monthly reporting in collaboration with Finance and organisational practices
  • Develop a consolidated Technology budget incorporating the Technology sub-functions into one budget
  • Lead a team focused on forming and maintaining Functions' technology requirements to deliver on their strategic priorities on their business and Technology plans.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, technology or related field preferred
  • 10+ years' experience in portfolio/program/project management, encompassing the full life cycle of prioritisation, planning, execution, testing, implementation and BAU handover
  • 10+ years' experience in P&L analysis, zero-based budgeting and budget management processes and practices
  • 5+ years' experience in strategic business planning
  • 5+ years' experience in business investment evaluation using industry processes and practices including NPV and IRR
  • Strong experience in portfolio/program/project management principles, process and techniques such as P3O, MoP, MSP, PRINCE2, PMBOK
  • Experience in a variety of delivery methodologies such as Waterfall, Agile and Scrum
