To accommodate the increased workload flowing from opportunities in the Western North American mining industry and the demand for process engineering resources within our Minerals and Metals (M&M) businesses across the Americas, Ausenco is looking to expand our Process Engineering Group in Vancouver and we are seeking an outstanding Manager, Process Engineering ready to lead and grow the process team and to be a champion for the quality of the process designs produced. The person we are looking for will have a demonstrated track record of applying their technical expertise in the development of creative and sustainable process engineering designs and deliverables in support of successful studies and projects, and will be comfortable in taking a leadership role to represent the "face" of process engineering within our Vancouver office, to the broader Ausenco, and to clients.

The Manager, Process Engineering role is particularly important within our team as process engineering strengths have always been at the heart of Ausenco's Minerals and Metals offering, which is based on adding value through innovative and cost-effective lean designs.

The M&M, Western North America group within Ausenco has a distinctive culture which allows us to service clients worldwide from our Vancouver office. Additionally, we draw on the expertise of Subject Matter Experts (SME's) from Australia and other offices in the Americas' region to complement our own knowledge base. The successful candidate will demonstrate their ability to work co-operatively with a range of professional colleagues to develop outstanding client solutions.

We are particularly focused on base and precious metals, with specific emphasis on comminution, beneficiation and recovery methods for copper, zinc, nickel and gold. We complete studies and projects for greenfield, brownfield and green island opportunities. Our design work stretches from conceptual and scoping studies through bankable feasibility studies and into detailed design and commercial execution of projects. The successful candidate will have solid practical experience working in other engineering companies or working on EPCM projects or studies at various levels on the owner's side and is now seeking to broaden their horizons and to lead a team of professionals. Preference will be give to candidates with additional experience in operations or industrial settings.

As this is a leadership role, strong analytical and communication skills are a must. Ausenco is a client-focused firm and ability to relate to clients and respond to their requirements is a must. The nature of our work requires both divergent and convergent thinking - that is combining innovative approaches with meeting scope, budget, schedule and specifically working to deadlines.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide strong leadership to and management of the Ausenco process engineering group in Vancouver, to strengthen their reputation for excellence and depth of expertise in the industry, including leading the group's growth and professional development
  • Comply with all Ausenco corporate policies and procedures by adopting Ausenco Quality Assurance and Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures.
  • Ensure process engineering design and documentation is consistent with study and project scope and objectives and with Ausenco standards and to provide or delegate Peer Review and Management Approval of agreed process deliverables as required.
  • Work co-operatively with other members of the Ausenco team to ensure overall study/project success including developing close working relationships with other Ausenco process engineers through "Communities of Practice" and establishing and maintaining relationships with Ausenco's in-house experts and specialists as well as business partners around the globe.
  • Provide expertise all the way through engineering phases from conceptual design, front-end engineering and detailed design and similarly develop connections in the wider Ausenco to leverage capabilities.
  • Contribute strongly to the cost-efficient design of plants ("Lean Design") by seeking to apply innovative solutions and technological developments that bring greater value to clients and benchmark those designs and layouts with best practices. Ensure that technical solutions that are proposed and delivered to clients are fit for purpose and deliver the best possible outcome for the project.
  • Work within study and project teams to meet scope requirements and ensure time and budget objectives are achieved. Develop and assist in development of process simulations, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) and Line Lists (LDTs), equipment sizing, heat and material balance etc.
  • Assist in the development of winning proposals for clients by highlighting process capabilities and "smarts" to clients. Establish and maintain contacts with the technical manager / expert on clients side to understand challenges and proposed technical solution to our clients
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Process Team to deliver best practice solutions through the application of knowledge of industry developments and experience of past trends or different situations.
  • Act as a Qualified Person for NI 43-101 compliant documents where appropriate


  • Degree in metallurgical engineering, mineral processing or chemical engineering
  • 10+ years of solid experience in the mineral processing industry, ideally with experience both with recognized engineering houses and in operational settings.
  • Registered professional engineer in Canada.
  • Broad knowledge of process simulations, PFD, P&IDs, hydraulics, pump calculations, plant layout, relief system design, materials and process engineering calculations, etc.
  • Operational experience at mines, mineral processing or metallurgical facilities, including solving problems and/or expanding production
  • Experienced in mill, concentrator and/or metallurgical plant design - particularly for base and precious metals - or expertise in one or more process stages.
  • Knowledge of engineering work flow process and working knowledge of industry process related software, codes and standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify underlying principles or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability for time management and to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong technical communications skills (written; verbal; presentation)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify talent, develop professionals and grow the process engineering group.
