A vacancy now exists in the Central Engineering department for the role of Mechanical Design Draftsperson. Reporting to the Senior Design Office & Technical Records Coordinator, you will be primarily responsible for providing design drafting services to engineering and operational departments throughout the lease. You will produce conceptual sketches, equipment layout, schematics, and mechanical, civil and structural designs for plant installations. This position is residentially based in Mount Isa and works a Monday to Friday roster.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Scoping of work for projects, designing mechanical, civil, structural installations and detailed drawings from conceptual design.
  • Estimate costs for drafting activities, produce written reports for clients and immediate supervisor
  • Provide technical assistance and support to fellow drafting personnel and CAD operators
  • Safe for work processes and encouraging safety improvements


The successful candidate will possess:
  • Experience in heavy industry e.g. Trade background, Associate Degree (Diploma) in Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering or 5 years of experience
  • Extensive experience in producing detailed drawings by interpreting design requirements from scope of work or functional descriptions particularly for heavy industry within process plant
  • AutoCAD, Microstation or SolidWorks experience with ability to utilise common Microsoft Office Suite of Programs
  • Good oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Flexible attitude and sound work ethic
  • Ability to achieve results and work within specified time frames
  • Strong customer focus and high attention to detail with an ability to work autonomously
  • Sound understanding of work place OH&S and preferably hold a manual drivers licence
