General Purpose

Purchases equipment, materials and services through the review of approved material requirements and specifications, evaluation of proposals, and negotiations with vendors/service providers. Develops and maintains network of suppliers to ensure timely purchases and deliveries.

  • Develop and plan purchasing strategies.
  • Negotiate with vendors to ensure the mines receive best price, terms, discounts and delivery on all purchases.
  • Ensure all purchases are made in accordance with company policy and guidelines and that all orders placed (within procedural requirements), along with the associated paperwork, is done timely and accurately.
  • Develop cost reduction strategies and efficiencies.
  • Develop current and accurate daily documentation of purchases made, including purchase order logs, purchase orders, quotes, etc.
  • Negotiate and administer simple warranty claims, in conjunction with all user departments.
  • Monitor and track invoices to ensure timely payment and discount opportunities.
  • Work with end users as necessary, to ensure appropriate purchase decisions.
  • Maintain and facilitate working relationships with vendors critical to the mines.
  • Lead by example and promote safety as a value and comply with company safety rules and state and federal regulations.
  • Monitor expediting report to ensure materials purchased meet required delivery date
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of three years' of experience in supply chain management/purchasing.
  • Teamwork skills to develop and promote cooperative working relationships within and among departments.
  • Ability to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
  • Ability to lead problem resolution sessions with internal customers and suppliers.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers including spreadsheets and word processing applications.

• Working knowledge of coal mining materials, equipment and operations. • Purchasing or warehouse previous knowledge. • Previous experience with Oracle.
