The Position Mine Manager

Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY: 

The Mine Manager will lead and manage all activities at the Argonaut Mine for safe, clean, efficient, and profitable operations that support mine planning and milling activities at the Ludlow Mill to develop, maintain, and reconcile actual ore production modeled; to map, in-fill drill, and collect samples to update geologic interpretation; and to support the mine technical activities of the Vermont operations by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers and supervisors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Fully supports the location health, safety, environmental and quality (HSEQ) programs by overseeing their implementation, maintenance and enforcement as well as compliance with Corporate programs. 
  • Responsible for supervision of the mine contractors such that mining activities are accomplished safely and in accordance with Imerys  health, safety, environmental and quality procedures and consistent with the desired culture of the Vermont Operations. 

  • Responsible for all short & mid-term mine planning with some involvement in long-range mine planning.

  • Reconcile the mine plan at a minimum on a monthly basis using the appropriate indices and communicate the results in a timely manner. 

  • Design, layout and schedule blasting activities. Interface with blasting contractors working in the mine. 

  • Responsible for all aspects of the ore control.

  • Oversees location ore control program that involves identification, planning and stockpiling of ore that will satisfy Vermont production and quality control requirements.  

  • Delivers In quantity and quality ore to meet mill production targets, ore dilution is minimized while ore recovery is maximized. Understand ore quality, ore grades and methods of visual identification.

  • Reconcile ore production at a minimum on a quarterly basis using appropriate R-Factors and communicates results in a timely manner. Develops plans to improve recovery results.

  • Plan and execute pit mapping (geologic and structural), in-fill drilling and sample collection in order to improve orebody knowledge. Uses information collected to update mineral and geologic models.

  • Understand talc assaying procedures and protocols. Ensure quality control procedures for sample collection and assaying are maintained. Coordinates collection of samples to lab. 

  • Collect samples for geotechnical analysis such as specific gravity for rock mechanical testing. Inspects the pit on routine basis for geotechnical stability and liaises closely with Geotechnical support team within Imerys.

  • Provide surveying control for topography, ore control, mining and waste dump progress, mapping, In-fill and blast hole location, and other mine technical related activities.

  • Manage and maintain, geologic, and general databases.

  • Actively involved in developing budgets.  Manage costs to ensure that they meet or do better than budget.  Instigate programs and provide technical support to achieve cost reductions in the mine through innovative technologies and systems.

  • Supports continuous improvement activities. Familiarity with Ore Body Modeling, Short Range Planning, and environmental and geotechnical constraints. Evaluation of grade/quality, cut-off grade, blending, capacity, and production strategies. 

  • Responsible for keeping the site in compliance with air quality, water and other environmental permits.  

  • Oversees administration of human resources policies at the facility.  Conducts investigations to resolve or effect settlement of problems and consults with human resources for advice and counsel.  

  • Maintains courteous, professional relationships with company line and staff functions, outside contractors, customers, and government agencies.

  • Ensure mine is in compliance with)  current Infor program a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Understand appropriate systems both computer and non-computer based to facilitate the active management of technical services performance. Systems include Safety / incident reporting systems, VFL System, 5 year budget Plans, Geological and Geotechnical Block Model, Mine Scheduling, Communication System.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining, Geology or Geological Engineering preferred

  • 5+ years' experience in mining operations

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
