Our Mining team have a permanent opportunity for a Geotechnical Technician. Based at our Leonora Operations and reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will provide timely and accurate information to support the safe and successful design, planning and execution of mining activities for our Gwalia mine.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, your role in our team will be to ensure safe, sustainable production from St Barbara's Leonora Operations through the provision of professional mine engineering services. You will have experienced the rigours of working underground and be energetic and proactive in delivering critical engineering support in operations that are technically challenging and unique. This is opportunity is offered on a balanced 8 days on / 6 days off roster. This role may be Fly-in Fly-out from Perth, Drive-in Drive-out from Kalgoorlie or residential in Leonora.

Our Opportunity
  • Contribute to the health and safety of all personnel in the Mining Department and who work in the Gwalia mine;
  • Actively participate in a constructive and creative environment for business improvement within the Mining Department;
  • Proactively support the mine planning and scheduling processes and identify constraints and opportunities to meet operational objectives
  • Ensure the timely and accurate daily reporting of mining performance physicals to management and the wider operations team;
  • Provide engineering support to the Mine Foreman in the day to day operational requirements of development and production activities;
  • Ensure that drill & blast and production plans are carried out to a high standard and issued in a timely manner;
  • Provide support to the designated ventilation officer with their statutory duties;
  • Liaise with, and provide support to, external contractors in regards to underground operational and schedule requirements at Gwalia.

About You

Our successful candidate will have at least 2 years' post graduate experience in a similar role and be a strong communicator.

The successful candidate will also have:
  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara's Values;
  • A Mining Engineering qualification accredited by the Institute of Engineers Australia, as required for WA First Class Mine Manager certification;
  • Completion or working towards underground practical experience as required for WA First Class Mine Manager certification;
  • Relevant work experience, with experience in gold mining highly regarded;
  • Willingness and ability to work underground;
  • Current unencumbered Australian 'C' Class Driver's Licence;

Experience in the mining industry, particularly in underground mining and Dangerous Good Security Card will be well regarded.
