Glencore is currently seeking a Mining Engineer in its Copper Resource Development department. Mount Isa Mines is one of the biggest mining operations in Australia located in Mount Isa, Queensland. Employing over 4,000 people, Mount Isa Mines is now looking for a new member to join the team.

The Operations
Mount Isa Mines is one of Australia's oldest, largest and most complex mining operations employing various mine extraction methods including sub-level open stope, sub-level cave and block caving methods. It is the second largest producer of copper in Australia and a key asset in Glencore's global mining portfolio. Together with Ernest Henry Mine, another world class Copper operation, the NQ operations feed an integrated supply chain with a smelter and refinery supplying our port facility in Townsville.

The Role

Role Purpose and Objectives:
To optimise existing and future LOM plans and projects within Glencore's Australian Copper portfolio, enhance CRD's operational experience and caving knowledge in weathered ore bodies through research, development and knowledge sharing. The long history of the site means that we work in and around historic workings and every stope design is different - we want you to think outside the box, innovate and table new ideas that could improve the current mine plan while integrating new mining methods into our scheduling process.

You will be become part of a small, high performing multi-disciplinary team taking reserve/LOM level designs through a detailed design process before project managing design execution. This wide scope ensures that no two days will be the same for the successful candidate. This is a full-time permanent role based in Mount Isa. The annual salary for this role can range from $115,000 - $135,000 dependent upon the depth of experience and skillset the successful candidate will bring to the position.

Position Expectations and Accountabilities:

  • Produce accurate LOM mine design/schedules. Run flow models. Manage continuous improvement projects.
  • Optimise mine design and draw strategy using Flow Modelling software.
  • General mine planning/project related work, benchmarking, reporting, data analysis and validation.
  • Drive D&B improvement projects. Review, document and share learnings.
  • Produce mine and production access development outputs and requirements.


Key Relationships and Competencies:

  • Reports to Senior Mining Engineer (Projects/Planning)
  • Support and collaborate with Technical personnel at sites, Engineers, Mining Contractors, Suppliers and other internal/external stakeholders as required.
  • Pragmatic, silo-busting decision-making, self-driven, results orientated, strategic vision and growth mindset.
Qualifications/Required Skillset:
  • Advanced software skills and proficiency with Deswik software suite; exposure to PGCA flow modelling package (highly regarded).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and financial modelling.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Stakeholder engagement, technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • Project management experience
  • The skills required to work in a team environment and manage your own time/workload, while building strong inter-departmental relationships.
  • Minimum of 3-5 + years' post-graduate experience working at an underground hard rock mine (precious/base metals experience preferred)
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Mining Engineering preferred).
  • Member of AusIMM.
