Mount Isa Mines is currently seeking suitably qualified and experienced applicants for the position of Occupational Hygiene Technician. Reporting to the Senior Occupational Hygienist, you will be part of a large team contributing to the management of a diverse range of occupational hygiene initiatives in underground and open cut metalliferous mining, processing and associated operations. This role is residentially based in Mount Isa and offers a flexible working roster of either a 5/2, 4/3 roster (9-day fortnight) or a Monday to Friday, 8 hour day roster.

Mount Isa Mines offers a unique work experience for the successful applicant. There are no other operations in Australia that offer multiple metalliferous mining operations throughout four mine sites, a Copper Smelter and Concentrator, a Zinc Lead Smelter and Concentrator, as well as the logistics operations and all relevant infrastructure and services required to support the operation.

You will be working with a team of experienced, multidisciplinary and knowledgeable Occupational Hygienists and Technicians that are happy to share their knowledge to assist you in the progression of your career in the Occupational Hygiene field. The hands on experience obtained at Mount Isa is highly regarded and well sought after within the Occupational Hygiene industry.

You will be responsible for:
  • Conducting sampling to measure and monitor worker exposure to occupational health hazards
  • Performing calibration and maintenance of sampling equipment
  • Facilitating laboratory analysis of collected samples
  • Working with occupational hygienists to interpret and analyse data, and recommend actions to prevent or reduce workplace exposures to harmful agents
  • Valid and accurate data collection and entry into Glencore data management systems

The successful candidate will have:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to liaise and influence effectively across multiple levels of the workforce, management, regulatory bodies, medical and health providers
  • Successful completion of the AIOH Basic Principles of Occupational Hygiene course is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in occupational hygiene practice and application is desirable
  • RSO qualifications, asbestos survey certification and / or tertiary qualifications in an associated discipline will be highly regarded
