We are the world's largest exporter of thermal coal and one of the largest coal producers in Australia, with mining complexes across New South Wales and Queensland.

Reporting to the Group Manager Technical Services, you will use your extensive knowledge and skills in the role of Principal Geotechnical Engineer as part of our Business Development and Technical Services team based in either Brisbane or the Hunter Valley NSW. You will provide geotechnical engineering support to manage risk and maximise productivity in our NSW and QLD operations, with particular focus on Open Cut Mines.

Your duties include providing assistance with the implementation and reviewing of corporate and site based geotechnical standards, protocols and guidelines. You will review and provide guidance on site geotechnical reference documents to provide assurance on adequacy for design and slope management. You will offer geotechnical engineering services as well as undertake routine geotechnical audits as per corporate and site slope management plan requirements across the group. You will keep abreast of the latest technologies and best practices and disseminate across the group as well as be actively involved in understanding any slope failures to identify failure mechanisms and causal factors. Your role is to afford operational support for the use of appropriate geotechnical monitoring systems and setting of triggers, support training of site based personnel in geotechnical hazard awareness and mentor site based geotechnical engineers, geologist and graduates. Representation on various industry based open cut committees may be required.

You hold tertiary qualifications in Engineering/Geology and/or Geotechnical Engineering complemented by extensive geotechnical experience in open cut mining (+15 years). You are proficient in slope stability analysis software, have RPEQ or ability to obtain registration and a high level of proficiency in writing technical reports.

Travel will be required between NSW and QLD on a regular basis.
