We are seeking a leader to oversee and drive forward our safety and health function for several southern states.    Reporting to the Region President, this position will lead the sub-region safety and health initiatives and compliance programs.

  • Leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Sub-Region's Safety & Health function while aligning with corporate objectives.
  • Drives established Corporate and Regional initiatives and safety & health action plans.
  • Continuously identifies and implements improvement opportunities within the Sub-Region's safety and health performance.
  • Trains, coaches and mentors operations leaders and safety professionals.
  • Develops and maintains the Sub-Region's safety performance standards, specifications, and programs, including training.
  • Stays apprised of emerging safety and related issues in the U.S.
  • Coordinates and assists in the response and correction of significant safety events.
  • Maintains and monitors the Company's ESH Information Management database and other department systems.
  • Ensures accurate and timely reporting of leading and lagging performance indices.
  • Monitors and regularly communicates Region safety performance to senior management.
  • Coordinates the Sub-Region's industrial hygiene program, and ensures completion of identified corrective and preventative actions.
  • Provides oversight for the management of Workers Comp, General and Auto Liability for the sub-region.
  • Effectively interacts with regulatory agencies at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel.
Assures compliance of all plant operations with company policy and federal, state, and local regulations. The incumbent must understand and comply with Company compliance policies, including the Code of Business Conduct (including NAM supplements), the anti-corruption policy and the Antitrust Compliance Policy, and is required to participate in compliance training in such policies and provide disclosures and compliance certifications from time to time. The incumbent is expected to require compliance with such policies by subordinates, monitor their activities for compliance and disclose incidents of non-compliance as provided by such policies.

This position will be based in our Irving, TX location.

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety related discipline or other related degree.  Advanced degree preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or demonstrated work towards professional certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in safety in a heavy manufacturing industry; cement/mining industry preferred.
  • Solid understanding of regulations in the US.  
  • Experience in management systems.
  • Experience and expertise in ESH audit program management and auditing as a Lead Auditor.
  • Strong management, communication, technical writing and influencing skills at all levels from senior leadership to plant level employees.
  • Experience and ability to coach and teach both safety and operations personnel.  Prior supervisory experience preferred.
Will frequently be exposed to plant environment conditions which include: 
  • Wet or humid conditions
  • Work near moving mechanical parts
  • Work in high, precarious places
  • Fumes, vapors or airborne particles
  • Toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Outdoor weather conditions
  • Extreme cold and extreme heat (non-weather)
  • Industrial risks similar to those experienced by operations personnel including noise, dust, electrical and machine risks, large equipment and vehicles, working at heights, working outdoors and around water, underground mine risks and occasional work in enclosed spaces.
