The Role and the Company

The Director of Safety & Health role is based in Irving, TX and reports directly to the President of the South Region with a dotted line reporting relationship to the VP Safety & Health for North America.   
What you'll get to do
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Region's Safety & Health function in alignment with corporate objectives
  • Continuously identify and implement improvement opportunities, and ensure sustainment
  • Train, coach, and mentor operations leaders to naturally incorporate safety and health into the way they operate and how they measure the success of their operations
  • Develop and maintain the Region's safety performance standards, specifications, and programs
  • Stay apprised of emerging S&H legislative, regulatory, and other topics, and communicates key messages and recommendations to Corporate and Region business leaders
  • Coordinate and assist in the response and correction of significant safety issues
  • Maintain and monitor the Company's S&H Information Management database
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of leading and lagging performance indices
  • Monitor and regularly communicate Region safety performance to senior management
  • Coordinate the Region's industrial hygiene program
  • Provide oversight for the management of Workers Compensation, General and Auto Liability for the region, in cooperation with Corporate risk personnel
Essential Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety or relevant discipline
  • At least 7 years of experience in safety in a heavy manufacturing industry
  • Proven experience developing, implementing and sustaining SH programs and gains across multiple sites
  • Solid understanding of regulations in the US
  • Experience with Safety & Health technology and systems
  • Experience and expertise in conducting S&H audits and managing these programs
  • Strong management, communication, and influencing skills with all levels of employee, from senior leadership to plant level employees
  • Proven success leading, coaching, and developing others to achieve leadership positions
Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or notable progress toward such certifications
  • Cement or mining industry experience
  • Master's degree or relevant continuing education and training
Work Environment
  • Role operates primarily a professional office environment, but requires conducting business at manufacturing locations and job sites where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, and elevated noise levels.
