This position will be responsible for rotating equipment and fixed equipment found in a petrochemical facility with a secondary focus on fixed equipment on an as needed basis. Also, asset prioritization, PPM optimization, and aggressively funded equipment design improvements/upgrades. The Engineer – Reliability (Rotating Equipment) is responsible for reducing maintenance costs and production losses; improving reliability; and promoting safety at the Nutrien facility in Geismar, LA.

What you will do:
  • Investigate rotating equipment problems and design modifications to improve reliability, productivity and safety. The investigations will frequently involve failure analysis to determine the root cause of equipment failures and recommend improvements in design, administrative, and/or PPM measures to reduce or eliminate failures
  • Develop new rotating equipment specifications based on the requirements of the Operations, Reliability, and Maintenance departments. He/she will then be responsible to draft project requests forms, review supplier quotations, and make recommendations for purchase
  • Assist with equipment repairs which may require working with original equipment manufacturers, OEM's, and outside shops regarding repair of rotating equipment. This may include travel to local and abroad shops for QC visits
  • Support the Capital Improvement group on major rotating equipment upgrades. The planning will involve the gathering and assessment of information to determine the requirements, writing technical specifications, and reviewing quotations. It will also involve monitoring of the progress of projects executed by Nutrien personnel or outside service providers
  • Indirectly supervise and manage Capital Improvement group crews as well as Nutrien employees
  • Responsible for preparation of rotating equipment repair and overhaul procedures
  • Perform random safety audits on workers performing jobs on site to ensure adherence to site safety policies. Performs equipment and Production history data analysis to identify and prioritize areas for reliability improvements
  • Participates in the Rotating Equipment Site Stakeholders Team (RESST) to optimize and manage predictive/preventive maintenance schedules, reporting and corrective actions identified in PdM/PM Reliability Program led by SME across Nutrien
  • Key contributor to the site's Bad Actor program by providing reports based on Maintenance spend and loss of production
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) initiatives by actively participating in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) program, MOC initiation and review, and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR)
  • Serve as technical focal point for maintenance organization for all aspects of rotating equipment including ANSI and API pump types, rotary screw compressors, turbomachinery, gearboxes, fans ...etc.
  • Investigating new materials, methods, and equipment with the aim of reducing maintenance costs, improving reliability, improving productivity, and enhancing safety
  • Support Planning Department to provide technical assistance regarding development of maintenance and project work scopes. Can include but not limited to materials of construction selection of equipment/piping and torque calculations on custom equipment connections
  • Provide oversight to engineered leak repair clamps by working with outside leak repair contractors to develop designed solution to mitigate critical leaks that could cause production or safety impacts
  • Process equipment upgrades/modifications, mechanical integrity policies/procedure updates through the MOC program
  • Will also be expected to have some familiarity with fixed equipment engineering principles and code knowledge to fill in for fixed equipment maintenance engineer as needed or help with project work surges in the area of fixed equipment
  • Assist with budgeting and record keeping
  • All other duties as assigned

What you will bring:
  • Bachelors' Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineer preferred)
  • Five plus years of maintenance experience
  • Experience with vibration monitoring and analysis
  • Understanding of equipment balancing and alignment principles
  • Understanding of API codes relating to procurement, testing, and repair of rotating equipment
  • Experience with ASME BPVC fixed equipment codes preferred
  • Experience with Reliability Engineering principles/programs such as Weibull & Crow/AMSAA
  • Must possess valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record that meets company standards
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card
  • Successful completion and passing of company pre-employment background check, drug screen and other related testing
  • Effectively communicate, orally (face to face and by telephone) and in writing, in English with coworkers, contractors, government officials and Senior Management
  • Read and understand written material (in English), including use and understanding of basic numerical calculations
  • Must be able to deal effectively with people and resolve conflicts and problems
  • Able to organize and prioritize multiple projects and makes adjustments quickly as needed
  • Able to analyze financial and cost data and develop conclusions and recommendations
  • Ability to accept direction and work effectively & cooperatively with other people
  • Must have intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Power Point)
  • Must possess strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with both company and contract employees
  • Must be goal orientated, self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be willing to work in protected areas at heights greater than six (6) feet above ground
  • Must be able to reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Must be able to hear and smell for deficiencies or hazards
  • Overtime may be required and is anticipated
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance
  • Must be willing to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and required
  • Must be available to respond to call-out as assigned
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor, keep required work schedule, focus on attention to details, and follow work rules
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow workers and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures
  • Must be able to withstand moderate noise levels
