What You’ll Do:

Leadership. Continue to establish and grow a positive safety and health culture within the Central Division (IL, AR, TN, KY) through coaching, engagement, and influencing action/change. Direct and lead a team of safety professionals responsible for supporting 1500 employees within the mining, asphalt production, logistics, and road construction businesses.

Champion Safety. Take an active role prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Vulcan and MSHA policies and procedures.
Collaborate with Others. Work closely to establish effective relationships with customers, co-workers, contractors, suppliers, and government officials that reflect and support company core values and meet or exceed Vulcan’s safety expectations.

Administer Programs and Training. Assist in developing and administering programs, such as Division and Company Safety and Health Programs and Policies, Accident Prevention Initiatives, the Industrial Hygiene/Occupational Health program, Emergency Response Planning, the Continuous Materials Inventory program, and Regulatory Compliance training.

Conduct Inspections and Audits. Conduct MSHA and OSHA compliance inspections, audits, and accident/incident investigations. Develop inspection and audit checklists. Participate in management systems audits and plant inspections. Assist the divisions in developing, implementing, and auditing management systems to prevent losses. Track and follow-up audit findings.

Monitor Health and Safety Regulations. Stay ahead of all existing and proposed changes in occupational health and safety regulations. Interpret and apply MSHA and OSHA regulations to all plants and operations.

Investigate Accidents. Participate in investigations of accidents and near misses and the identification of root causes and corrective actions. Maintain a database of accurate injury and safety information.Skills You’ll Need:

Experience. Must have experience in an industrial environment or mining/aggregates industry in either surface or underground operations. Experience supervising and leading a team of professionals is preferred.

Education. Master’s degree is preferred in safety and health, industrial hygiene, human resources, business, or a related field. CSP or CMSP preferred.

Operational Knowledge. Knowledge of mining, asphalt, and/or construction is preferred. Must have knowledge in prevention methods for incidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, and property loss. Must demonstrate knowledge of Loss Control principles.

Regulation Knowledge. Must have a working knowledge of MSHA or OSHA general industry and construction.

Problem-Solving Skills. Must possess excellent hazard recognition skills, working with different partners to address the challenges and problems ensuring accurate, safe, and efficient solutions.

Technology Skills. Must have strong computer skills, including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and cell phones. Must be able to use various and highly sophisticated computerized devices.
