Role Details

Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Senior Geologist: Database to join their Mineral Resources department based in the West Perth Office.

Reporting to the Unit Manager: Resource Geology, you will be responsible for maintaining the GFA geological databases, ensure continuous improvement in data integrity and contribute to the seamless integration of data into the GFA GIS application.

As there is a requirement to be site based and corporate base, this role requires an initial 4 days on and 3 days off, 5 days on and 2 days off roster alternating between site and Perth office and then site visits as required.

Key responsibilities will include;

  • Demonstrate full compliance with the OHS and Environmental Management Systems' standards by participating in initiatives; TOPS, toolbox meetings; investigations; training; assisting with the implementation, and contributing to audits within the mine.
  • Ensure that the company has the capacity to achieve Zero Harm by actively identifying and reporting hazards using the site's hazard reporting system.
  • Ensure the integrity of geological data collection and reporting within agreed timeframes and consistently aim to exceed reporting standards to SAMREC/JORC/SOX guidelines.
  • Comply with internal and external standards to ensure JORC, SAMREC, SOX and external audit compliance of primary geology information.
  • Contribute to business effectiveness by preparing and distributing QA/QC reports, within organisational style guidelines within agreed timeframes to internal and external stakeholders to meet business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain data automation with assay labs to optimize data reporting functionality including volumes and turnarounds.
  • Develop and maintain contract management functionality for drilling and analytical contracts from the drill database.
  • Assist automated data updates for DB and GIS data requirements.
  • Provide on-call support to all geoscience end users
  • Liaise and advise Geology Manager and VP Exploration on appropriate recent technologies, systems, and processes associated with geological databases.

Key factors to your success include;
  • Possess a BSc degree in Geology or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years SQL Database experience.
  • Advanced Acquire, Relational Database experience (SQL).
  • Minimum 5 years of gold mining industry experience with a good understanding of both mining and exploration geology workflows and requirements.
  • Advance level Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word experience.
  • Ability to understand, edit and write SQL applications related to Database functionality.
  • Knowledge of GIS and 3D software will be advantageous (Intermediate) level.
  • Proven track record in geological data management, compilation and validation
  • Possess a valid WA driver's license and National Police Clearance
