Job Overview

To run all aspects of safety and health for Komatsu Nevada Region (Elko, NV; Reno, NV; Las Vegas, NV). To competently manage the safety department by performing all safety training, updating all employees on changes having to do with safety, and working with the management team to help ensure that all employees go home safe every day. To spend time with the employees in the shops, in the field, completing safety audits on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

DAILY: Enter all Accident Reports into Velocity. Put together and email Safety Shares, Reports, and any other pertinent information to employees. Work with minesite safety departments to make sure Komatsu stays in compliance.



WEEKLY: Attend and contribute to weekly Manager Meetings. File and organize all employee safety files. Create spreadsheets, databases, memos, and announcements for the Safety Department. Complete safety walkthroughs and safety observations of both shops and the field. Review employee Accident Reports after they are filled out, when needed schedule an Accident Review Panel Meeting with all required attendees, facilitate the meeting, and afterward create a report and communicate it to all employees. Make sure that all regulatory documentation is properly filled out, filed, and retained for the required amount of time. Constantly demonstrate knowledge of safety standards to ensure regulatory compliance with OSHA, MSHA, State Laws, and all customer sites.



MONTHLY: Organize, plan, and facilitate monthly safety meetings and quarterly safety stand down days. Facilitate Safety Committee Meetings. Review and Edit Safety Committee Notes and send out to all employees. Facilitate and organize employee and contractor safety training - New Hire, MSHA Annual Refresher - 8 Hour, MSHA New Miner - 24 hour, MSHA Experienced Miner - 8 hour, Confined Space, Lock Out Tag Out, etc. Accident Investigation. Visit job sites and complete safety walkthroughs, meetings, and observations. Attend and contribute to impromptu meetings and training sessions. Responsible for maintaining Browz compliance. Work with the Browz database, consultants, and other safety professionals to ensure that P&H Nevada is in compliance for all of the minesites we provide service to.



OCCASIONAL, INFREQUENT: Develop and write safety policies and procedures. Attend Quarterly Contractor Safety Meetings that are held by different minesites our employees work at. Accompany anybody who may come in from Global Risk Consultants or any other company to inspect our shops. Facilitate and Organize Accident Review Panel Meetings when an accident occurs. Report Workers' Compensation Injuries to ESIS whenever one may occur. Responsible for managing all workers' comp claims from start to finish.

Education / Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Health, Safety, or related field. MSHA Instructor Certification. OSHA Safety Training (Fall Protection, Confined Space, Accident Investigation, etc.). Understanding of OSHA and MSHA safety requirements. Efficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong public speaking skills. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to communicate and work with a wide variety of people. 2-3 years of experience in mining and safety.
