Role Details

Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Senior Geologist: Exploration to join their Exploration department at Agnew Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Superintendent : Exploration, you will be responsible for assisting in the achievement of optimal mine life for the business through the management and development of new and existing, high quality exploration targets within the mining lease, including early stage to near production stage projects.

This role is offered on an 8 days on 6 days off Fly in Fly out roster from Perth.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times
  • Leading a team of professionals with the clear goal of value add discovery
  • Applying a working knowledge of best practice exploration techniques to lead and mentor the Exploration team to:
  • Prioritise and rank existing targets to develop exploration plans
  • Generate new targets using existing and new concepts within the St Ives exploration space
  • Hold routine project reviews to evaluate the outputs of exploration programs and determine if projects are to advance or retire
  • Develop, propose and supervise R&D programs
  • Prepare reports, budgets and programs as part of the annual business cycle
  • Maintain exploration schedules and forecasts and track against budget to ensure delivery of plans
  • Ensure full compliance of exploration activities with site policies and procedures and state and national legislation (ISO 14001)
  • Work with the Superintendent: Exploration to develop and communicate the site exploration strategy in line with the business strategic objectives
  • Promote and maintain a high standard of safety focused exploration

Key factors to your success include:

  • BSc (Honours) Geology Degree
  • A minimum of 8 years' exploration experience
  • Extensive knowledge of greenstone hosted orogenic gold systems
  • 3D modeling skills using Leapfrog
  • Use of ArcGIS, DataShed and ioGas geochemistry package
  • Knowledge of acquisition and interpretation of geophysical datasets
  • Understanding of QAQC processes
  • Budgeting for large-scale exploration programs
  • Project and contract management experience
  • Proven leadership and communication skills
