Position Summary:

We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Vancouver, B.C. Office. If you have strong communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and understand innovation, we want to hear from you. Working closely with our senior engineers and designers, your primary role will be to lead the mechanical design on challenging projects. The position will require you to mentor others as well as directly apply and develop your knowledge of mechanical design for heavy industrial facilities.


  • Assisting in defining project scope
  • Leading mechanical and piping teams on projects
  • Delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule for mechanical and piping work
  • Engaging with clients in relation to project work
  • Performing system analyses, establishing user requirements, analyzing system functional and performance requirements, defining design criteria, and establishing system layouts and designs
  • Providing leadership and guidance to junior members of the mechanical and piping team
  • Reviewing the work of junior members of the mechanical and piping team
  • Preparing engineering calculations such as hydraulic modelling, conveyor design, equipment sizing and tank, pressure vessel and bin design and ensuring that all analyses satisfy user and system requirements
  • Preparing technical specifications based on input received from other disciplines
  • Conducting interface management between related systems
  • Preparing data sheets based on input received from other disciplines
  • Preparing and contributing to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise
  • Providing input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
  • Preparing or providing input to 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings
  • Participating in and contributing to design reviews
  • Reviewing vendor documents and shop drawings
  • Preparing project proposals
  • Business Development with current and prospective clients
  • Undertaking engineering manager or project engineering roles on small to medium size projects


  • BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering and registration as a professional engineer
  • Established project engineering experience
  • Good communication, interpersonal, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to complete tasks independently and supervise junior team members as required
  • Working knowledge of industry standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the mechanical engineering discipline
  • Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate mechanical activities between disciplines
  • 10+ years of experience working as a mechanical engineer in heavy industry
  • Experience in mining and minerals processing and the typical equipment used
  • Familiarity with typical gold and copper extraction processes
  • Experience preparing project proposals and estimating hours
