Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Senior Engineer: Projects to join their Mining Department at Agnew Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Unit Manager: Underground Mining, you will be responsible for the effective management and supervision of ventilation, paste, infrastructure and project engineering related activities for two underground mines. You will manage a team of four to enable achievement of the budgeted capital projects portfolio, meeting all quality standards including cost, safety and environment.

This role is offered on a 1 x 8 days on 6 days off and 2 x 4 days on 3 days off roster and is Fly in Fly out from Perth.

Key responsibilities will include;
  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensure that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure Projects Department functions are adequately supported by coordinating all facets of projects; including developing and utilising appropriate processes and guidelines to assist in the achievement of this objective.
  • Ensure consistency and transferability of technical work ensuring that design intent is implemented in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Preparation and ongoing management of Projects Department budgets and forecasts and provide the necessary training and exposure to direct reports so that they can assist in cost control. Annual budget up to $5M.
  • Demonstrate good commercial acumen by preparing quality submissions for capital expenditure using appropriate templates and methodology.
  • Develop, implement and monitor adherence to appropriate new procedures, processes and technology to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of projects. Implementation of new technology such as digital plods and real time monitoring.
  • Assist in the achievement of successful mining capital projects by providing expert guidance and technical input into all project scopes. Projects will include mine infrastructure - dewatering, water supply, second means of egress (escape-ways), primary and secondary ventilation, heat management (refrigeration), paste filling activities etc.
  • Manage the Site capital projects list to ensure accurate monthly reports detailing key project milestones and capital expenditure against plan.
  • Playing a senior role in developing and maintaining a diverse and inclusive work environment where all employees feel welcome and have the potential to excel.
  • Knowledge in liaising and maintaining contracts. Supporting management in creating accurate scope of works to establish project agreements.

Key factors to your success include;
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering
  • Post graduate qualification in business or project management would be highly regarded
  • Financial Management experience including formulation and adherence to an approved budget would be advantageous to your application
  • Experience in mine ventilation modelling and planning and paste fill systems
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in mining operations in a similar role with good understanding of underground mining processes and equipment
  • Demonstrated level of competency in relevant software applications including Microsoft Office, Ventsim and Deswik.
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory obligations including the vent officer position.
  • Leadership experience, including performance development and change management
  • First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency is desirable
