Location:
MEC-Transportation has projects in cities all across the US, so our people must be willing to go where the work is. Job assignment location will be determined closer to your start date. Our operations include:

Scope:
  • The Traction Power Senior Engineer / Project Manager will report to the Rail Electrification Group Manager while providing top-level support to the MEC Transportation Regional Leadership Team and Operational Managers.
  • The Senior Engineer / Project Manager will be assigned to multiple projects across North America and take full responsibility to deliver the traction power substations and associated systems in compliance with the contract specifications to schedule and to budget.

Key Responsibilities:
  • During the Project Design and Procurement Phase
    • Understand contract requirements and have ability to concisely summarize, effectively communicate and support the estimating team with developing an equipment procurement strategy and schedule and budget for implementation
    • Coordinate the traction power design with in-house or external engineering teams and provide guidance on how to optimize the design to reduce cost for equipment and construction
    • Analyze technical specifications and drawings with the ability to determine the scope of work and materials and evaluate and propose alternative and compliant technical solutions which provide competitive advantage
    • Identify, quantify, manage risks- performance based and technical requirements, including compliance of equipment suppliers with specifications
  • During the Project Implementation Phase
    • Day-to-day management of all aspects of delivering the traction power substations, including design deliverables (submittals), production and factory testing activities of equipment suppliers and field testing and commissioning.
    • Provide regular reports on the status of the project, including design (submittal) progress, forecast cost vs. budget and schedule updates.
    • Conduct regular detail design reviews with the in-house or external engineering team to manage interfaces between equipment or resolve foreseeable technical issues.
    • Review product submittals from suppliers and ensure seamless integration of all products into a functional and compliant system.
    • Review manufacturing test procedure from suppliers and witness factory acceptance tests as necessary
    • Review field testing procedures and help ensure jobsites successfully deliver systems to clients
    • Develop and prepare factory and field integrated test plans and procedures.

Qualifications:
  • This position requires an industry experienced candidate who has the ability to develop effective relationships with front-line Operations, clients, suppliers and internal or external engineers, to successfully execute projects on time and to budget.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Must have experience in the electrification industry in areas such as, traction power substation or utility medium voltage distribution substations.
  • Must be familiar with project delivery under a bid-build or design-build process
  • Must be skilled in the review of drawings, specifications and cost estimates and have the capability and experience to manage engineering deliverables (submittals) to schedule.
  • PE registration is desirable, but not essential.
