SEM-Hatch is a joint venture between Hatch Ltd. and Sikumiut Environmental Management Ltd. providing engineering, construction and project management services in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador. SEM-Hatch is performing Engineering and Project Management Services for the Voisey’s Bay Mine Expansion project. Our client is now ready to initiate the construction phase of an underground mine. This mine expansion project is expected to produce about 40,000 tonnes of nickel per year and extend the life of the Voisey’s Bay operation until at least 2032. We are interested in receiving resumes Site Services Coordinator.

The Site Services Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the projects site services requirements are met in a timely and efficient manner while minimizing disruption to the existing operation. This role will be the key interface between the Operations, Site Services contractors and the Project. Provides leadership and direction to the Site Services Contractor on site and the Operations Supervisors to plan and execute the work required to support the Project. The scope of work includes but is not limited to coordinating the following activities: daily operation and maintenance of the accommodations complex, freight delivery, minor civil works, road maintenance, snow removal, off loading and loading barges, developing standard operating procedures, risk assessments, and safety routines as per the Company’s safety program (Safe Production).

This project term position is based at the Voisey’s Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for coordinating all of the Site Services activities required to support the project;
  • Represent Site Services at the daily project meetings;
  • Ensure that work areas are operating productively while maintaining maximum efficiency and adherence to the Company’s strict environmental and safety standards;
  • Work closely with the Site Services Contractor to coordinate the daily activities of the crews to ensure a high level of service is provided to the operation and the project;
  • Ensure that general cargo and materials are loaded and moved to and from appropriate storage locations, so as to satisfy customer demands and requirements;
  • Ensure that contract manpower and equipment resources are in place at required times as required, to support: winter snow clearing and sanding of roadways and yard areas, garbage pickup, fueling of mobile equipment and other services required to support the project;
  • Review and develop where required, SOP’s, Hazops and Risk assessments for the various activities in the Site Services area of the operation to ensure they are suitable for the work being performed to support the project;
  • Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the accommodations complex;
  • Ensure that effective Safety and Environmental procedures, government regulations and Hatch standard operating procedures (SOPs) are being implemented and followed;
  • Perform Safety inspections of the relevant areas in conjunction with SHE, management and contractors;
  • Provide administration and coordination of activities involved in mobilization and demobilization of freight and equipment to support the project;
  • Complete various other assignments and activities as directed by the Manager.


  • College Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a similar position;
  • Experience in a remote work site is considered an asset.
  • Experience with software programs such as Microsoft Access data base, PeopleSoft, SAP, and Excel;
  • Must have several years’ experience with Port Marine operations, shipping activities and have a previous successful track record with site services support materials handling and coordination in a heavy Industrial operation;
  • Must be a good leader and have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with several groups with key requirements, changing priorities and find alignment and common ground in scheduling as necessary;
  • Must be a proven leader in all aspects of Safety, Health and Environment. Have a good understanding of provincial regulations and previous experience with structured safety programs.
