Position Description:

At Nevada Gold Mines, our vision is to be the world's most valued gold mining business by finding, developing and operating the best assets with the best people. Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Open Pit at our operations. As part of the Surface Geotechnical Team, the successful candidate will be results centric adding to our already dynamic, yet structured environment supporting our mining operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in site-based slope design and management, rock mass property assessment, and geotechnical instrumentation.

Responsibilities:
  • Opportunity to work and gain experience at the surface mine and participate in future pit expansions and growth targets.
  • Site wide surface geotechnical support of open pits, dumps and surface stockpiles.
  • Perform slope stability assessments, rockfall hazard analyses, and ground support recommendations to optimize pit designs while maintaining safety and economic objectives
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with mine geology, mine operations, dewatering, and mine engineering groups
  • Develop, implement, and manage geotechnical monitoring programs and interpret instrumentation data to assess performance and trigger actions.
  • Performing, training and oversight of highwall data collection, design, and slope management
  • Lead geotechnical investigations and analysis for open-pit slopes, highwalls, benches, and stockpiles
  • Conduct geotechnical risk assessments, participate in safety audits, and contribute to the site's Ground Control Management Plan
  • Provide real-time geotechnical support during mining operations, including pit wall inspections and emergency response
  • Prepare technical reports, presentation materials and support training of employees.
  • Design and oversee construction of waste rock dumps, tailings dams, and haul road foundations
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support monitoring of dewatering wells and piezometer water levels as it pertains to high wall stability
  • Supervise and mentor Geotechnical Engineers and technician(s) and lead small project teams.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology or Geological Engineering or related field or equivalent experience required
  • Five (+5) years' experience working as an on-site Geotechnical Engineer required
  • Ability to train and mentor team members and demonstrate safety leadership required
  • Willingness and ability to perform field work in an extreme environment required
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to work with multi-disciplinary site teams required
  • Hydrology experience preferred
