Newcrest Mining Limited, a global mining company and Australia’s largest gold producer has recently expanded its footprint into British Columbia as the operator of a Joint Venture company, Newcrest Red Chris Mining Limited.

Newcrest Red Chris Mining Limited has an opportunity for Steam Truck Operator within Mobile Maintenance department. This position is for work at our mine located 80 km south of Dease Lake, BC in Tahltan traditional territory. The successful applicant will be required to work and stay in camp during their shift rotation. We offer a number of designated flight marshalling points within BC. Responsibilities

Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Strong commitment and adherence to all Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Operating steam truck and pressure washing units and other cleaning equipment to properly clean production, service and support equipment.
  • Working outside during all four seasons with water for 12 hours shifts rotating between day and nightshift
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease wash times and streamline work processes
  • Report deficiencies and provide feedback on all equipment after washing
  • Use of computer to input timesheets, work order notes, equipment cleanliness information, and shift turn over notes
  • Assist with other maintenance activities as required

Qualifications and Experience
  • Valid Class 3 driver’s license required – with airbrakes endorsement preferred
  • Work experience related to Steam Truck Operator or Wash Bay Attendant specific training and skills is preferred
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Candidate must be capable of working outside during all four seasons with appropriate personnel protective equipment and rain suits
  • This is an entry level position within the Mobile Maintenance department
  • Candidates to provide information re: Safety Program related training and experience plus other related tickets and certificates
  • Competency driving a vehicle with a standard transmission required
  • Must be capable of working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Physically capable of lifting (50lbs), carrying, bending, twisting, crouching and kneeling in a physically demanding and fast paced environment
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision once familiar with requirements
  • A team player that works well with others
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
