Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville, a rail loadout facility near Cloncurry, and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Port & Operation Services Manager, the role of Superintendent Port and Logistics is to ensure that concentrate is received, transported, stored, and loaded in a safe and efficient manner so as not to compromise our license to operate parameters. Responsibilities span: Cannington storage shed, concentrate trucking from Cannington and third-party sites to Yurbi (Cannington's rail loadout facility); Yurbi; rail; Cannington's Port of Townsville facility; and concentrate deliveries to local customers.

Accountabilities

  • Maintain personal conduct in line with company health, safety and environmental policies, and coaches others, including participation in Risk Assessments, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and incident investigations.
  • Actively participate in creating a workplace which is free from harassment, discrimination and victimisation by taking a proactive role in the setting and maintaining of appropriate standards of behaviour.
  • Lead owner-operator port team. Responsible for all aspects of port operations including: safety; in-loading, concentrate storage, and out-loading operations; maintenance; environmental compliance; water management; and improvement projects.
  • Contractor management for: road and rail haulage; Yurbi management; concentrate sampling; third party product handling; cement/zinc back haulage; berth security; Port of Townsville; and draft survey.
  • Establish and review asset management strategy to improve reliability of the operation (Port & Yurbi).
  • Lead logistics planning to meet sales commitments
  • Lead third party product handling operation
  • Key contact for South32 Marketing
  • Lead development of long-term logistics strategy
  • Liaise with Port of Townsville, port community, and other key stakeholders
  • Ensuring environmental compliance and improvement for logistics and port operations (License to Operate)
  • Contract management / vendor performance management
  • Participation in contract negotiation
  • Participate in Townsville community engagement
  • Toolebuc Road maintenance including liaising with McKinlay Shire Council
  • Review and monitor the permit to work system
  • Implement and maintain systems that ensure a safe logistics and port environment
  • Implementing incremental continuous improvements for responsible areas
  • Risk management including implementation of risk mitigation and contingency plans
  • Responsible for budgeting and monitoring of financial and safety performance
  • Personnel management (ensuring all training & competencies are up to date, succession planning, retention and career progression & recruitment of permanent and temporary staff)


About you

  • A relevant Tertiary Qualification is preferred along with sound experience within an Operating / Logistics environment at Management / Supervisory level.
  • A strong understanding of production / logistics systems with some exposure to process improvement.
  • Ability to lead strategic planning
  • Strong contract management and negotiation skills
  • Good communication skills for key stakeholder engagement (internal & external)
  • Predominantly process driven with an ability to address short term issues
  • Good analytical and numerate skills
  • Ability to influence and interact with key stakeholders
  • Advanced Microsoft application skills
  • Good interpersonal skills

Location

Based at South32's port facility in Townsville with a requirement to travel to Cannington and Cloncurry on a semi-regular basis.
