Role Details

Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Technician: Electrical Communications to join their Mining Maintenance department at Granny Smith Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Electrical Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing quality and timely preventative installation, maintenance and repairs of the surface and underground radio communications and telemetry network facilities.

This role is offered on an 8 days on, 6 days off roster and is fly in and fly out of Perth.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure that the company has the capacity to achieve Zero Harm by actively identifying and reporting hazards using the sites hazard reporting system.
  • Routine inspections of machinery and fixed plant and carry out preventive measures and condition reporting.
  • Fault-finding, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of the communications networks. Experience using Spectrum Analyser and OTDR necessary.
  • Design and Installation of communications equipment: Leaky Feeder, Fibre Optics, Structured Cabling and New Trax.
  • Programming Telemetry/PLC Equipment: Miri, Allen Bradley Micrologix, Schneider M340 & Citect.
  • Programming Kenwood Digital Radios and Repeaters.
  • Commissioning of new communication technology introduced to site.
  • Recording all relevant information into SAP as required.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment

Key factors to your success include:

  • Tertiary qualification in IT, Communications and or Instrumentation; or
  • Trade qualification in Instrumentation and or Communication
  • Current C Class Driver's License
  • WA "A" Class Electrical Workers License
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in radio communications, telemetry networks and maintenance
  • Extensive knowledge of communications technologies and equipment
  • Minimum 2 years' mining industry experience
  • Senior First Aid, EWP, Forklift and Working at Heights certificates are desirable
