ABOUT OUR OPERATION:

Agnico Eagle is always looking for new talented team members to join our Nunavut mining operations. We have been operating at Meadowbank, our first Low Arctic mine, near Baker Lake for over nine years. The mine produced its three millionth ounce of gold in 2018. 2019 marked the last year of production at the Meadowbank mine, and has since transitioned to process ore from the Amaruq satellite deposit. With the official opening of the Amaruq Whale Tail Project in August 2019, the project is now referred to as the Meadowbank Complex.

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Reporting to the Underground Mine Superintendent, the Underground Mine General Supervisor is part of the Mine Department and collaborates with other departments of the division. The Underground Mine General Supervisor is a leader for underground mine operations, guiding his or her team to success. He/she will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle's culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.


  • Manage day-to-day operations for mine development, production and construction and lead by example to build a safe and strong employee culture;
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of mine operations employees in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner, either personally or through subordinate supervisors;
  • Monitor costs, productivity, health & safety and employee motivation;
  • Interact with the Mine Management team to establish production and quality standards by using knowledge of mining technology (methods, procedures, standards and machine & equipment capabilities);
  • Set priorities, plan and direct mining activities in keeping up with effective mining operations and cost controls;
  • Coordinate production activities along with procurement, maintenance, production planning, safety and quality control activities in order to obtain optimal use of employee and equipment resources;
  • Review and analyze production to determine the sources of variance between production performance and goals;
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with all appropriate parties, developing and implementing methods and procedures to eliminate operational problems and improve efficiency as well as ore quality;
  • Communicate and coordinate with the engineering team and other departments to develop and implement actions allowing us to improve productivity and efficiency;
  • Lead by example and manage the performance and development of direct reports, ensuring compliance with the Agnico Eagle Mining Personnel Policies and Procedures;
  • Provide specific training and development opportunities for immediate employees;
  • Coach and mentor subordinates in regard to employee relations, safety, environmental, productivity and cost issues and address inappropriate behavior as required;
  • Assist in the development and preparation of capital and operating budgets. Routinely review expenditures to prevent excess costs or inaccurate charges. Interface with vendors and suppliers to ensure the efficient use of supplies and tools;
  • Oversee investigations involving safety incidents, accidents and near misses, ensuring that reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner, and recommend procedures and methods to improve employee safety;
  • Replace the Superintendent on occasion, as required.


WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Bachelor's degree in mining engineering or related discipline is an asset;
  • 10 years of experience in leading underground mining operations;
  • Possess or be eligible for Level 2 Supervisor Certification as per the Mine Act;
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain a valid First Aid Certificate;
  • Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude, able to develop and foster a team environment;
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of efficient mining practices, procedures and regulations;
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint;
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (oral and written). Selected candidates must attain a passing mark on a SPEEXX English language assessment.

Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities of the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val d'Or, Quebec.
