ABOUT OUR OPERATION:

Agnico Eagle is always looking for new talented team members to join our Nunavut mining operations. Meliadine is located just northwest of Rankin Inlet, a small coastal town on the shores of Hudson Bay. Commercial production began at Meliadine in mid-May 2019 and the mine officially opened at the end of June. This mine is our largest gold deposit in terms of mineral resources and we expect to operate it for at least 14 years. The site features a power plant and processing facilities, as well as a complete camp complex.

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Reporting to the Hydrogeology Specialist, the Hydrogeology Technician is part of the Environment Department and collaborates with other departments of the mine. The incumbent will be responsible for the field execution, sample collection, and data management pertaining to hydrological/hydrogeological studies and monitoring programs. Further responsibilities will include assisting with data interpretation, water balance maintenance, report writing, presentation preparation, and execution of site water management strategies. She/he will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle's culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Field data and sample collection for hydrological and hydrogeological projects;
  • Update various data records related to the water balance such as treatment plant performance, flow meter records, groundwater infiltration, etc.;
  • Assist with maintenance of the site water balance and hydrogeological predictive model;
  • Collect data pertaining to groundwater infiltration and quality underground;
  • Underground vibrating wire piezometer installation and maintenance;
  • Liaise and maintain good communication with members of the engineering, geology, dewatering, maintenance, and operations departments;
  • Conduct technical follow-up in the field to ensure licence compliance;
  • Assist with report writing including preparation of management plans and external reporting documents;
  • Assist Environment Technicians with environmental monitoring programs outside of water management as needed;
  • Apply the highest degree of health and safety on a daily basis, conforming with the company's health and safety standards;
  • Respect the commitments of the company's sustainable development policy;

  • Perform all other related duties as requested by the Hydrogeology Specialist and the Water Management General Supervisor.


WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Bachelor's degree in Earth Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Physical Geography, or related;
  • 1-2 years' work experience in a relevant field;
  • Hold a valid driver's licence;
  • Experience with groundwater/surface water monitoring and sampling, data collection, and data entry and analysis;
  • Mining experience is an asset;
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel; and
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written).


Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d'Or, Quebec.
