YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

As a member of the corporate Environment Group, the role of the Environmental Management Advisor is to work directly with the Director, Environment and Organizational Risks to provide support to leadership in the development and implementation of environmental management best practices to limit operational and HSEC (Health, Safety, Environment and Community) risks, while providing support in the pursuit of continuous performance improvement company-wide.

The incumbent will act as an advisor of technical risk, providing environmental support and guidance to operations and project development at various stages of project evaluation ensuring the organization both meets and exceeds specific and overall environmental performance to minimize enterprise exposure. The incumbent will work collaboratively with regional management and technical services across the organization.
  • Ensure AEM Standards and best practices are audited against standards, identifying gaps, followed and disseminated company-wide;
  • Actively participate in the budget / LOM / ELOM processes, performing technical and financial reviews of each operational site's plans and strategy, creating value for AEM;
  • Making sure the AEM water management governance is working properly;
  • Support environmental performance follow-up and audit to support continuous improvement;
  • Support in the review and auditing of existing processes and systems as well as major capital project applications;
  • Identify and evaluate new, leading-edge environmental technologies and practices; introducing to the operations as appropriate;
  • Oversee the environmental performance of the company;
  • Establish, identify and track critical KPI's;
  • Identify operational and technical opportunities for synergies between operations and projects;
  • Provide support in the project development and permit applications;
  • Provide support to the Director, Environment and Organizational Risks and the Senior Management for all issues related to environmental and water management;
  • Guide and leverage Technical Services resources towards value-generating opportunities and risk mitigation, to ensure the efficient and appropriate use of resources and assets;
  • Actively demonstrate the promotion of the company's global vision and strategies;
  • Availability to travel internationally to Agnico's operations in order to perform site visits as required (3-4 visits per site, per year);
  • Provide guidance and participate in review committees for project evaluation and studies;
  • The Environmental Management Advisor will work closely with the Director Environment and Organizational Risks and project leaders;
  • Additional duties as required.


WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Ideally based in Ontario or Quebec to facilitate access to several of our operating sites;
  • Be able to visit on a periodic or as-needed basis our sites to maintain good relationships with the operations and to be able to provide support on an as-needed basis;
  • Have a recognized wide-breath of knowledge and experience in aspects associated with water or tailings management;
  • Have a good understanding of Agnico Eagle operations;
  • Have a good understanding of project permitting process in Canadian jurisdictions, including environmental assessment, and if possible be familiar with the permitting process in some of the jurisdictions in which AEM has activities.


This position requires a candidate with:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or in a Science related field; Post Graduate Degree considered an asset;
  • At least 10 years postgraduate experience with significant operational and technical experience in environmental management in mining industries;
  • Good relationship, team building and mentoring skills with previous exposure to different cultures and languages is highly desirable;
  • Strong team player able to build effective working relationships;
  • A motivated self-starter with good analytical, problem solving, planning and decision-making skills;
  • A commitment to the highest safety and environmental standards and the application of relevant legislation, codes and company standards;
  • Fluent in English;
  • Knowledge of French and Spanish language, written and spoken, is an asset;
  • Excellent organizational, communication (oral, written and presentation) and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership and innovation, while being a strong team player;
  • Project development experience is an asset;
  • Agility with financial concepts and calculations such as required by various studies levels;
  • Experience in an advisor/consultant role.
