ABOUT OUR OPERATION:

Agnico Eagle is always looking for new talented team members to join our Nunavut mining operations. Meliadine is located just northwest of Rankin Inlet, a small coastal town on the shores of Hudson Bay. Commercial production began at Meliadine in mid-May 2019 and the mine officially opened at the end of June. This mine is our largest gold deposit in terms of mineral resources and we expect to operate it for at least 14 years. The site features a power plant and processing facilities, as well as a complete camp complex.

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Reporting to the Open Pit Engineering Coordinator, the Open Pit Drill and Blast Technician is part of the Engineering Department and collaborates with other departments of the mine such as Mine Operations and Geology. They will perform good engineering practices in terms of drill & blast design as well as end of period reporting. This role also includes QA/QC compliance for all processes linked to the drilling and blasting operation and the general drill and blast procedures. The incumbent will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle's culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the Environment.
  • Create Open Pit Drill & Blast layouts & potentially the same for the Underground Mine;
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure compliance and quality of execution;
  • Keep track of all the drilling and blasting performances through data reporting and databases;
  • Assist the Planners for short- and long-term planning of drill & blast activities;
  • Evaluate in-situ performance and adjust Drill & Blast parameters accordingly;
  • In collaboration with the Geology Department, perform dilution, drilling and blasting performance analysis;
  • Provide Mine Operations with different data & analysis that can help increase productivity and reduce costs;
  • Provide explosives and blasting accessories estimates for the yearly Sealift order.


WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • College's degree in Mine Engineering or similar field of expertise;
  • 3-4 years' experience in the mining industry;
  • 1 year experience as a drill and blast technician;
  • Strong working knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites, AutoCAD and mine design/planning software;
  • Knowledge of the Deswik software is an asset;
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written). Selected candidates must attain a passing mark on the SPEEXX English language assessment.

Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from Mirabel or Val d'Or, Quebec.
