ABOUT OUR OPERATION:

Agnico Eagle is always looking for new talented team members to join our Nunavut mining operations. We have been operating at Meadowbank, our first Low Arctic mine, near Baker Lake for over ten years. The mine produced its three millionth ounce of gold in 2018. 2019 marked the last year of production at the Meadowbank mine and has since transitioned to process ore from the Amaruq satellite deposit. With the official opening of the Amaruq Whale Tail Project in August 2019, the project is now referred to as the Meadowbank Complex. The Complex refers to the processing facilities and infrastructure at the Meadowbank mine site combined with the mining and infrastructure at the Amaruq site.

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

  • The primary goal of this position is to take ownership of all drilling and blasting related tasks by:
    • Developing, controlling, archiving all drill and blast deliverables;
    • Developing, supporting, tracking, analyzing and reporting drilling and blasting optimization initiatives;
    • Completing and communicating all required reporting and analysis related to drilling and blasting;
  • The drill and blast engineer acts as the liaison between the Engineering and Drill and Blast crew in regard to:
    • Priorities set by the WIPP to ensure optimal mine production;
    • Required field observations to ensure work quality;

Primary Duties
  • Collaborate with Mine Technician to make sure that all drill and blast deliverables are created in a timely manner
    • Verify and approve drilling, blasting and tie-in connection plans completed by the Mine Technician
    • Obtain verification and approval from the Production Engineer for all plans created by the Drill and Blast Engineer
    • Drilling Plans (Copies must be given to D&B crew, Geology & Survey as soon as possible before planned drilling time)
    • CSV file must be saved on the network for survey hole implementation
    • Loading Instructions (Copies must be given to D&B crew at the same time as the Drilling Plan)
    • MDRS database must be updated to include all pertinent information
    • Blast notification
    • Tie-in Plan (Copies must be given to the D&B crew at least 12 hours before scheduled blast time).
  • Maintain and archive copies of drill and blast deliverables
  • Practical underground Mining experience
    • Design transversal and longitudinal stopes, ore pass and ventilation raise.
    • Control of QAQC for UG development blasting
    • Develop and maintain high technical standards for drilling and blasting
    • Manages the underground blasting seismograph program;
  • Develop, analyze, report, optimize and communicate
    • Monthly Drill and Blast report on a monthly basis
    • New and on-going Blast Optimization Project initiatives
    • All drill and blast related KPIs to ensure best practices (powder factor, drilling factor, blast fragmentation, etc.)
  • Responsible for the annual explosives order and the explosives dispatching to the various magazines
  • Owner of the Drill and Blast Handbook
    • Responsible to update annually and as required
    • Responsible to record relevant Drill and Blast information and results for future projects
  • Promote Health and Safety by participating and hosting the monthly Departmental H&S meeting


WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • C ompetencies: Analytical Thinking, Attention to detail (Quality Orientation), Conceptual Thinking, Continuous Improvement, Diversity Management, Innovation, Planning and Organizing, and TeamwoK;
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field;
  • 5- 6 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint;
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written). Selected candidates must attain a passing mark on the SPEEXX English language assessment

Your Work Schedule
  • Hybrid Schedule: 7 days of work at our Meadowbank mine site, followed by 7 days of rest (a 4/3 schedule can also be offered instead of 7/7). 5 days of work followed by 2 days of rest. 5 days of work and 2 days of rest; during the 5/2 schedule, the incumbent will work from home/the Mirabel or Val-d'Or office; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d'Or, Quebec.
