Position: Heavy Equipment Operator (Haul Truck, Dozer, Grader, Excavator, Shovel)

Term of Employment: Permanent, Full Time

Rate: $37.73/hourly - $41.96/hourly

Function: Operations

Schedule: 12 hour shifts (7 days on / 7 days off / 7 nights on / 7 days off)

Transportation: Employee bus transportation from Tumbler Ridge (Wolverine & Brule), Chetwynd (Brule & Willow Creek) and Mackenzie (Willow Creek). Please be aware no camp facilities are available.

Primary Purpose: Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for providing support to mine operations in an active open pit coal mine.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Operate rigid-frame haul trucks to transport overburden, waste rock, and coal from the mine, and perform other tasks as required; or
  • Operate tracked dozers to efficiently manage dumps, move coal, and perform other tasks as required; or
  • Operate graders to level and maintain mine haul roads and perform other tasks as required; or
  • Operate excavators to efficiently clean and move coal, load trucks, and perform other tasks; or
  • Operate shovels to efficiently load trucks with coal and waste, and perform other tasks as required.
  • Operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner, perform pre-trip checks and complete FLHA's on a regular basis.
  • Ensure adherence to Conuma's workplace policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify and report risks, near misses and incidents with the goal of supporting and developing Conuma's excellent safety standards.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education, Experience & Qualifications
  • Some high school, college or industry courses in heavy equipment operating combined with on-the-job training, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in an open pit mining environment operating the following heavy equipment:
    • Haul Truck: Operating Komatsu 830E, 1500, Caterpillar 785, 789, 793 haul trucks or similar equipment. The similarity will be determined by Conuma Resources; or
    • Dozer: Operating Caterpillar D10T, D11T tracked dozers, or similar equipment. The similarity will be determined by Conuma Resources; or
    • Grader: Operating Caterpillar 14H, 16H, 16M, 24M graders or similar equipment. The similarity will be determined by Conuma Resources; or
    • Excavator: Operating Caterpillar 385, 390, 6015B, Hitachi 850, 870, 1200, or similar equipment. The similarity will be determined by Conuma Resources; or
    • Shovel: Operating Komatsu PC2000, PC4000, PC7000, Hitachi EX1900, EX3600, EX5500, EX5600, EX8000, or similar equipment. The similarity will be determined by Conuma Resources; or
    • Any combination of the above equipment.

Technical Competencies & Skills
  • Must be able to work 12-hour day and night shifts; on a 7x7 rotation.
  • Must be able to communicate in English.
  • Physically fit with the ability to perform physical labour.
  • Proven safety and attendance record.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with peers, trainees, and leadership.
  • First Aid/Mine Rescue Training is considered an asset.
