Description
Under general supervision, plan, organize, manage and control the industrial hygiene and safety programs.
- Develop, implement, and assess elements of the H&S management system.
- Direct, develop, and monitor occupational health and safety practices for the site.
- Lead complex and high severity incident investigations and root cause analyses. Provide guidance to management team during a crisis. Work with external parties in emergency response efforts. Oversee and maintain records of accidents as required by law.
- Provide guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, State and Federal regulations.
- Ensure that all training mandated by MSHA, OSHA or other body is provided and updated as appropriate. Serve as the secondary site contact with MSHA, OSHA or other regulatory bodies.
- Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for health and safety systems and issues.
- Coordinate the activities of vendors and contractors for the provision of services and equipment.
- Work with employees to correct deficiencies. Implement disciplinary procedures and recommend terminations. Investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary.
- Oversee and recommend the selection of staff. Participate in the selection of staff.
- Represent site on company-sponsored steering teams, e.g. the Company Safety Steering Team.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Leading or supervising personnel and/or projects, AND
- High School diploma or GED and nine (9) years of experience in Health & Safety or related, OR
- Associates degree and seven (7) years of experience in Health & Safety or related, OR
- Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience in Health & Safety or related, OR
- Master's degree and three (3) year of experience in Health & Safety or related.
Preferred
- Experience with Change Management, Crisis Management, and Fatal Risk Management programs.
- Familiar with the latest health and safety, crisis management, and industry standards and trends. Strong desire to implement continuous improvements.
- Possess strong personal accountability to set objectives, determine priorities and manage timelines to deliver results.
- Ability to partner with program owners to design effective implementation strategies at all global locations and to support program acceptance and execution.
- Strong coordination skills between multiple groups to garner feedback, understand program strengths and limitations and iterate to improve outcomes to standard documents.
- Ability to lead program development through influence and collaboration with site/corporate leaders and external stakeholders.
- Experience developing policies, procedures, templates, standards, and communication plans to support the program's implementation.
- Experience developing and analyze KPI's and report out on global metrics that support achievement of program objectives.
- Experience providing training to site leadership teams on program expectations.
- Experience in development of health and safety resources through mentoring and knowledge transfer.
- Experience conducting periodic audits and assess program health and maturity to ensure compliance.

- Position requires frequent travel to manufacturing locations where walking, carry equipment, climbing stairs and ladders will be required
- Ability to travel (50%); must have, or be capable of qualifying for a passport
- Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
