Job Description

Kinross' Operation Strategy group is looking to hire on a student for the summer of 2021 as part of our Gold Rush Internship program!

Job Responsibilities

  • Study internal Kinross Maintenance documentation
  • Understand and learn the basic use of JDE for the collection of relevant data
  • Study and analyze Maintenance and Equipment performance indicators currently used by Kinross Gold Corporation
  • Get familiar with the different elements of the mobile and/or fixed equipment used by Kinross in different mining operations
  • Study maintenance cost structures related to different fleets of Mobile Equipment and/or processing equipment in order to develop benchmarking studies
  • Study the different variables and performance metrics tracked on dispatch systems
  • Establish life profiles for the main mobile equipment at Kinross and create dynamic models for predicting and optimizing their replacement
  • Refresh/acquire and apply knowledge related to the modeling/programming of algorithms within Excel
  • Support in the development of equipment performance analysis and optimization
  • Document findings and main conclusions related to the different analysis to be performed
  • Create and present a PowerPoint Slide deck describing the most relevant findings of the summer program


Education and Experience

  • Mechanical or Industrial engineering, but candidates studying other forms of engineering or mathematics may also be considered
  • Preference for candidates in their 3rd or 4th year of university, but other candidates may also be considered


Skills

  • Strong capabilities and experience in the use of advanced Excel functionality
  • Use and knowledge of advanced statistics and mathematic tools an asset (Maple, Matlab, Minitab, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral; experience in PowerPoint an Asset
  • Proven ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Team player with an ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Experience working in an industrial environment is an asset
  • Language skills in Russian, French, Arabic, Spanish or Portuguese are assets, but not mandatory
  • Ability and willingness to travel. There is a potential for some travel to one or two of our mine sites (Up to four weeks of travel in total); depending of the progression of the pandemic
