Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. In 2016, the site poured its seven millionth ounce of gold, 20 years into its mine life. The initial Gilmore Expansion Project is expected to extend mine life to 2030.

Job Description

Provide complex technical support to Mine Operations. To follow established policies, practices, and procedures when completing work assignments. Supervise and instruct the shift crew activities to maximize mine efficencies in a safety-oriented workplace and meet production goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor and correct work areas on an ongoing basis to assure a safe and cost efficient operation.
  • Supervise Gil workforce assigned in all facets of mine training, safety, general work practices, and standard operating procedures.
  • Set up blast patterns and conduct blast safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor adherence and make necessary corrections to plans and initiates corrective actions related to operations, safety, environmental affairs, and cost efficient production goals, to include contractor guidance.
  • Investigate, analyze, and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries, equipment damage and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.
  • Plan and execute work activities to meet production schedules and mining plans.
  • Coordinate work of crew with service groups, mining contractors, and other production units.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate production records. Generate monthly production summaries for use in company reporting.
  • Coordinate efforts with the Project Superintendent and staff personnel to ensure that long-range goals are accomplished within the parameters of company and departmental policies.
  • Integrate short-term mine plans and evaluate alternative short-term mine plans based on operational bottlenecks.
  • Produce drill pattern designs based on short-term plan and operational paramenters.
  • Analyze all opportunities that may impact the productivity of the entire operation (i.e. model predictors for material hardness, blending strategies, minimizing dilution, equipment performance, etc.).
  • Design waste dumps, stockpiles, access roads, ramps, and other mine site facilities.
  • Maintain an inventory of drilling and blasting supplies. Explosives inventory must be reconciled daily in coordinatorion with the mine site inventory.
  • Assume project management duties of construction mining projects as needed.
  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions, and carrying out corrective actions as needed.
  • Ability to pass an ATF background check for explosive handling is required.


Education and Experience

Education
  • Bachelor of Science in mining engineering preferred


Experience
  • Minimum of two years' experience in mine operations or engineering
  • Understanding of drilling and blasting operations
  • Understanding of mine design


Skills

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees and management.
  • Computer skills and and knowledge of spreadsheet programs.
  • Must be production oriented, a self starter, and have the ability to work in a team environment.
