Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. The Round Mountain Phase W Project is now in production, with first gold poured in May 2019.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, is responsible for mine Geotechnical and/or Hydrogeology duties, as required while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values .

Job Responsibilities

  • Deploys and maintains high availability and quality of slope monitoring infrastructure including prisms, radars, vibrating wire piezometers, TDR, etc.
  • Reports and interprets geotechnical data and observations.
  • Provides on-call geotechnical engineering support to Operations after hours as needed.
  • Assists with design of excavated slopes and execution of mitigation measures.
  • Performs Workplace Exams and documents Safe Working conditions, responsible for fixing safety issues when identified or stops work when hazardous conditions persist.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in geological engineering, mining or civil engineering or 5 years of applied, related technical experience is required.
  • Basic technical skills in hydrogeology.
  • General understanding of mining operations.
  • Working knowledge of Vulcan, AutoCAD and Rocscience software preferable.
  • Working knowledge and skill with computers utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently and also as part of the Team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Must be presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver's license.
