The Tasiast mine is an open-pit operation in northwestern Mauritania located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored. The mine is proceeding with an expansion that is expected to increase production and lower operating costs.

Job Description

Ensure the long-term operation of the mine through effective exploitation of the Tasiast Resource. Develop and lead the execution of the long-term strategy using a multi-disciplinary approach that brings together the Technical Services, Strategic Business Planning and Continuous Improvement functions to deliver value. Formulate and execute on short, medium and long-term business and mine plans, ensuring alignment with the organization's overall strategy and objectives. Engage and collaborate with other site departments, as well as Regional and Corporate resources, including Exploration, to deliver integrated value.

Job Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and direction through managers of Technical Services, Strategic Business Planning and Continuous Improvement departments;

• Executes functional business plans and contributes to the development of functional strategy;

• Safely and efficiently affect continuous value improvement through projects and initiatives focused on optimization, process improvements and increased productivity, utilizing the tools necessary to meet the management operating philosophy;

• Directs the resolution of highly complex or unusual technical and business problems by applying advanced analytical thought and judgment;

• Develops and implements business practices and policies within the mine operation that align with the organization's overall business strategy;

• Measures and accounts for the performance of its reporting areas;

• Bears responsibility for the budget approval for its reporting areas;

• Directs the allocation of resources across multiple areas to meet financial performance requirements;

• Makes decisions based on global standards, functional strategy and priorities;

• Makes decisions in compliance with legislation and other industry trends impacting the company;

• Seeks, identifies, evaluates and implements best technical and business practices from both inside and outside of the company;

• Acts as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives; models organizational values, sets the cultural tone and prioritizes business goals.

Education and Experience

• More than 15 years of related work experience with experience leading senior level teams within the mining industry;

• Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to ore body evaluation and mine operations;

• General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions;

• Detailed knowledge of all phases of mining, and the integration with the departments: Technical Services, Strategic Business Planning and Continuous Improvement;

• Experience driving technical, operational and financial performance across multiple departments in the operation;

• Experience in strategic change, implementation and management;

• Proven leadership and team-building skills;

• Knowledge and experience in developing policies and procedures relating to safety, environment and individual and organizational development;

• Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management

• Advanced English proficiency.

• University degree (engineering, geology, mining engineering);

• Additional specialized education (Master's degree or equivalent);

• Formal professional designation in the appropriate area of expertise.
