Job Description

Reporting to the Controller, this role will be responsible for managing Bald Mountain's financial reporting and annual planning processes, and supervise two direct reports.

This position requires an individual to be a business advisor to the Controller by thoroughly understanding the business, by providing timely/accurate information to management, and by creating a culture of continuous improvement.

This is a unique role to become a part of Bald Mountain's finance function. The role will initially begin with a 3 month intensive training period working with the Toronto Corporate office, before moving to Elko, Nevada, where the role will be based.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting:
  • Leads and manages the monthly close schedule (monthly/quarterly/annual) in accordance with the Site and Corporate deadlines, including the production of variance analysis
  • Directs and leads the day-to-day activities of the Accounting group
  • Provides guidance and assistance to the direct reports and troubleshoots and resolves issues as they arise
  • Ensures that accounting transactions comply and are prepared in accordance with GAAP/IFRS
  • Reviews Quarterly Reporting Packages for accuracy and completeness prior to Corporate submission
  • Identifies, investigates and researches issues, and provides recommendations to the Controller
  • Communicates and provides guidance to Departmental Managers of the financial impact of their decisions and strives to achieve the highest level of customer support
  • Oversees continuous improvement of the Financial Reporting processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the Site Financials and Operational results
  • Ensures retention of financial and production records in compliance with all laws and accounting requirements
  • Monitors Internal Controls and implements improvements to financial procedures and controls to maximize operational efficiencies and to maintain a strong control environment for SOX audits
  • Primary responsibility for year-end audits and liaising with Internal/External Auditors
  • Prepares ad hoc analysis/financial reports/JEs, as required, including the Quarterly Royalty Pack
  • Oversees special projects, such as the implementation of new accounting standards
  • Participates in special cross-functional projects and other duties as assigned by the Supervisor


Budgeting/Forecasting:
  • Leads the annual Strategic Business Planning Process including budgets and forecasts
  • Provides guidance to other departments in preparing, understanding, and analyzing their budget/forecasts
  • Analyzes the budget/forecasts with the assistance of the Direct Reports
  • Presents the budget/forecasts review presentations to the Site Management including the GM
  • Be a business advisor to the Controller by identifying and presenting the risks, opportunities, and business drivers of the future business plans
  • Proactively strives to improve the budgeting/forecasting process and achieve best practices
  • Participates in special cross-functional projects and other duties as assigned by the Supervisor


Supervision:
  • Supervises two direct reports and promotes and inspires them to high standards of accuracy and integrity
  • Coaches and mentors direct reports and ensures cross-training as required
  • Responsible for conducting timely performance evaluations, recommending promotions and addressing performance issues when needed

Education and Experience

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance with a strong financial and accounting knowledge
  • CPA/MBA preferred, but not required

Experience
  • 6-10 years of accounting/finance experience preferred with increasing levels of responsibility


Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • High degree of business acumen, and analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proven self-starter who takes ownership of the work, and ability to deliver accurate results in a flexible, fast-paced work environment
  • High sense of urgency with an ability to effectively pace work to adhere to deadlines and key deliverables
  • Consistently thinking beyond the borders of finance to help create a culture of continuous improvement
  • Strong team player with demonstrated leadership and an ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, external agencies, and other Site Departments
  • Adhere to key financial controls in accordance with GAAP, Sarbanes Oxley requirements and corporate policy
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Requires valid driver's license.
