Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. The Round Mountain Phase W Project is now in production, with first gold poured in May 2019.

Job Description

Responsible for managing contract drilling activities to ensure results are achieved in an optimized and cost effective manner, while reflecting Kinross' values.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise drill programs for multiple departments including Dewatering, Geotech, Ore Processing, Environmental, Hydrology and Geology.
  • Coordinate between the site and drilling contractors to minimize the impact on production.
  • Proactively perform site inspections, ensuring all prep work is complete so that moves between drilling sites and mobilizations occur smoothly.
  • Monitor and order consumables through Supply Chain.
  • Review and approve any field changes.
  • Coordinate multiple activities per hole with different contractors and internal clients.
  • Accurately track contractor performance by driller as well as costs by program, hole and foot.
  • Assist in the procurement process for new contracts.
  • Hold contractors accountable to their contract and scope of work.
  • Monitors, corrects errors and improves routine procedures at all technician levels.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining procedures and disciplines necessary to proficiently perform all tasks.
  • Print and distribute required reports.
  • Maintain department specific records, logs and files as required.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures inluding, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgement in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.


Education and Experience

  • Strong technical knowledge of drilling equipment and operating procedures including safety is required.
  • 5 years of drilling experience is preferred.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience is required.


Skills

  • Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Ability to motivate a cross functional team to achieve the company's goals while promoting a positive environment.
  • General understanding of geology and open pit mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver's license.
