Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach.

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Senior Ore Control Geologist, the incumbent is responsible for a high quality assay sampling and timely delivery of samples while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values.

Job Responsibilities

  • Effectively report to Geology Department to ensure that quality standards of sampling are maintained.
  • Sampling includes use of shovel, other sampling equipment and mobile equipment.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Help the department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.


  • Education and Experience

  • Experience in blast hole sampling is highly preferred.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to look around and find work that needs to be done without having to be instructed.
  • General understanding of mining operations.
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Experience in geology/survey is preferred.
  • Experience in working safely near moving equipment is preferred.
  • Experience in driving on pit ramps preferred.
  • Must be fit to wear a respirator.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Able to shovel and lift full sample bags weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver's license.
