Job Description

To provide global technical leadership in electrical engineering; to develop and implement corporate policies, standards, and specifications related to electrical engineering; take the role as Engineering Manager. Develops and executes long-term strategies for internal technical processes of significant strategic impact. To participate in medium to long-term business and/or project planning on key projects by providing technical and cross-functional expertise, and ensuring alignment with the organization's overall strategy

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead key technical projects requiring electrical engineering input/oversight, including defining and achieving project goals, anticipating and minimizing risks, project management, managing resources and consultants. This will include both greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Ensures all projects are integrated with other business activities and that regional, site, and functional interests are represented
  • Be the company's Subject Matter Expert in electrical engineering.
  • Review existing corporate documents (policies, standards, specifications) related to electrical engineering; lead the process of authoring new documents where required, and making updates and communicate to staff across all sites.
  • Identify the need for and develop company-wide standards, procedures, and policies and ensures compliance with industry and professional regulations related to electrical engineering
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams; influence and persuades senior management decisions that have an impact on business direction and influence others to achieve project goals often without direct authority.
  • Assist Supply Chain team with technical support in procurement efforts related to packages related to electrical and I&C systems.
  • Prepare business cases, capital costs, and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to executive management
  • Take co-ordinator role in construction and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Stay abreast of changes and developments in electrical engineering and how they may affect Kinross; introduce new methodologies and tools to improve current practices. Make recommendations to executive management.
  • Direct and manage the work of electrical engineers directly reporting to the role. Set performance targets and measures, monitor, and manage overall performance. Build the capabilities of the team to enhance the ability to achieve financial and operating strategy; identify requirements for success.
  • As Engineering Manager, co-ordinate and direct work and of all engineering disciplines, often being the prime contact with the external engineering firm.


Scope of Responsibility & Complexity

Problem resolution involves a high degree of independent judgement to interpret policy in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible. Applies theoretical concepts or original approaches to complete projects or assignments. Work is assessed based on attainment of objectives and effectiveness of results. Ensures quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization. Directs the work of project teams and / or task forces. Identifies and resolves complex technical, operational and project management problems.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • Formal professional designation in electrical engineering
  • 15+ years of related work experience (preferably more), with several years in a supervisory role
  • Understanding of mining and processing equipment
  • Experience supervising or mentoring technical employees
  • Experience with EPCM, EPC and other projects, preferably on both sides (Owner and EPCM/EPC)
  • Experience leading projects of varying scope and complexity from planning to commissioning stages
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of large multi-disciplinary teams
  • International experience in multiple regions
  • Project management and operational experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Portuguese, Russian or French an asset
