The Kinross Africa Regional Office is located in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, and is responsible for providing senior leadership and back office support to the gold mine sites located in Ghana and Mauritania.

Job Description

Reporting directly to VP External Relations, the role of the Communications Superintendent and Spokesperson is to define the company's communication strategy and its implementation through effective communication to develop the company's objectives and preserve its reputation for all Kinross entities in Mauritania.

The Superintendent will orchestrate external communication through the press, websites, various media (print or digital), etc and will ensure internal communication with different teams about company's development matters. The Superintendent will also lead event projects (internal, external, trade shows, webinars, etc.). Finally, they will manage the institutional communication as well as the communication budget in close collaboration with the Senior Communication Coordinator.

Job Responsibilities

  • Drive and deploy TMLSA communication policy.
  • Oversee production of all editorial content (articles, photographs, videos, podcasts, etc.)
  • Develop internal and external communication tools (meetings, conventions, newsletters and magazines, events, etc.)
  • Manage press relations at senior management level.
  • Manage events, as well as sponsorship operations, in coordination with local relays at international events.
  • Ensure constant monitoring of communication trends.
  • Define the roadmap of your Department (setting priorities, sizing resources, validating tools, etc. ) and manage the team placed under your responsibility.
  • Align communication efforts with the company's objectives and at the regional level.
  • Promote the image and reputation of the company and ensure the consistent use of its brand image and key messages, as well as the accurate dissemination of information to the external public.

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Communication, Marketing or in a commercial discipline, in social or political sciences, combined with a certification and experience in communication or equivalent.
  • 8-10 years' experience in the areas of government relations, public relations and corporate communication, preferably in the mining industry or in a corporate environment.
  • Master the topics of information governance.
  • Master print and digital; community management and related tools.
  • Proficiency in English is imperative given the company's international reach.
  • Should be proficient in the three languages used (Arabic, English, French). Specifically fluency in English and French.


  • Proven experience in public relations management.
  • Excellent command of Office software: Excel - Word - PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation skills in French and English.
  • Have strong professional networks with a proven ability to develop both internal and external relationships and manage a wide range of external stakeholders. Have proven experience working with the media and the press.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to effectively defend the business.
  • Knowledge and experience of national and local compliance and communication regulations.
  • A proven understanding of national legislative, regulatory and licensing processes, government procedures, and good knowledge of mining policies.
  • Suitable for working under pressure on a mining site.
