Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in Nevada. It is the newest mine in Kinross' portfolio and was acquired in January 2016.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Tire Shop Supervisor, the incumbent works mostly in the tire department managing, maintaining and replacing tires on large earthmoving equipment while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values.

Job Responsibilities

  • Change tires on all mobile equipment.
  • Fill out all required paperwork, including change cards, and filling out service reports and tread depth reports.
  • Check pressures and tread depths on all heavy equipment.
  • Whenever possible, perform cold air checks on downed mobile equipment.
  • Maintain proper number and types of spare tires (front rotations).
  • Tire and wheel evaluations on all equipment that comes to the tire pad, and on other equipment when requested.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of spare parts.
  • Load and unload tires with tire hand as needed.
  • Maintain adequate number of spare tires for small vehicles.
  • Remove rocks from tires.
  • Able to move all rubber tired equipment for maintenance use only.
  • Assist with "Out of Service Tire Surveys".
  • Keep work area clean, and tools in good condition.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.


Education and Experience

  • Know tires, and their basic design.
  • Be able to identify an unsafe tire, and correct the problem.
  • Math skills required to check tire depth.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs frequently.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to get along and work well with others.
  • Understand procedures regarding tire maintenance and replacement in order to complete job in the most efficient, effective, and safe manner possible.
  • Keep safety as the number one priority.
  • Must have a background in forklift and equipment operation.
  • Some mechanical background preferred.
  • 1 year of previous tire experience is required.
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of maintenance activities.
  • Working knowledge and skill with computers utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver's license.
