Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in White Pine County, Nevada. Its workforce comes from Ely, Eureka, Elko, and Spring Creek area. It is the newest mine in Kinross' portfolio aquired in January 2016. Nevada is one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. The Bald Mountain Vantage Complex Project has commenced production, and the first gold bar was poured in June 2019.

Job Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for the daily operation of loader and/or the mobile crushing plant in an active surface mine environment. All work must be completed in a safe and efficient manner. The employee will work continuously to align daily functions to reflect Kinross' values and work in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Perform pre and post operation inspections of equipment. Visually inspect mechanical components and manually check all fuel, oil, and fluid levels according to established operational procedures.
  • Proficiently operate equipment according to established, safe operating procedures in various weather conditions day or night: rain, snow, fog, cold, heat, and dust; and upon various surface conditions: wet, muddy, snowy, icy, and/or uneven or rock-strewn.
  • Operate the jaw crusher, vibrating screens, cone crusher and conveyors, following all company safety procedures and aiming at machine preservation and productivity;
  • Coordinate delivery of material for feeding at the plant, communicating with the supervisor and directing the trucks/equipment to safe locations for operation while near the plant;
  • Feed the mobile crushing plant and maintain stockpiles, following company safety standards;
  • Guarantee the good operational conditions of the loader by carrying out a checklist, operational inspections and carrying out daily/routine cleaning, and keep the area organized and carry out tire inspections once per shift following the company's procedure;
  • Carry out the inspection and analysis of the feed material, monitor quality of crushed products, intervening when necessary to ensure specifications are met.
  • Make operational adjustments in order to keep the plant in full productive capacity, without causing damage to the equipment;
  • Clean and organize the plant area, inspect the belts to identify tears or other damages that may affect the equipment;
  • Perform plant cleaning activities and preventative lubrication; both daily and during maintenance stops to ensure equipment availability;
  • Assist the Maintenance team with basic and simple tasks that do not require technical knowledge.
  • Perform cleaning and equipment inspections during plant shutdowns or in windows of opportunity;
  • Guide, monitor and advise all employees and service providers regarding the use of mandatory PPE, to ensure the protection of all and reduce the risk to the worker;

  • Identify hazards in work areas and report or mitigate the risk appropriately.
  • Follow the pre-established procedures in emergency situations, make decisions to solve the problem, aiming to reestablish the normality of activities as soon as possible.
  • Be fit for duty, attend and work through scheduled shift without causing harm to self, to others, or to equipment.
  • An employee must comply with state and federal health and safety regulations and all company policies and procedures.
  • The employee is expected and required to work as a team player.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications & Skill Requirements

  • Previous Loader, mobile crusher operation and maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of mobile crusher operation is preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical skills and ability to interact with all levels of employees and management.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and functions of haul trucks and heavy equipment is desirable.
  • Must keep accurate records of feed tons and equipment condition.
  • Safely operate equipment forward, reverse directions and around multiple pieces of equipment in mine traffic.
  • Conscientious in taking on new tasks to improve skills.
  • Satisfactory safety, performance, and attendance is required.
  • Be a positive, safety-minded contributor to the team.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of the team.
  • Consistently willing to learn and improve skills.
  • Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays and weekends.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license required.
